69 DAYS UNTIL WINTER
73 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS

If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
The first Quaker congregation in the state of Ohio was established in the Warren County town of Waynesville on this date in 1803. They came to Ohio because of its ban on slavery. By 1805 there were nearly 2000 Quakers living there and by 1811 a two story brick meeting house was completed and Quakers still continue to meet there today.
Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be…
Simple Gifts, a Shaker song written and composed in 1848 by Elder Joseph Brackett.
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight….
I don't know much about the Quakers nor have I visited Waynesville, but I have always admired people that can live simply. I have way too much clutter here even though my life is mostly a simple one, doing simple things.
One of the best finds of the summer, for me, was to find this wonderful sign to hang on my back door. Instead of the seasonal wreaths that hung there, I figure this Rooster can hang there all year now. All I have to do is to change the flowers at the top of the hanger to give it a seasonal look.
The quotes today are all from the song Simple Gifts. It's one I learned the words to when I started playing the dulcimer, but the tune to it was already one that was familiar to me as we had sung different word to it at church. The Lord of the Dance has the same melody as Simple Gifts.
I danced in the morning when the world was begun
I danced in the Moon, and the stars, and the Sun
I came down from Heaven and I danced on Earth
Dance, then, wherever you may be;
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he.
And I'll lead you all wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he
While Shakers have nearly died out, Quakerism, though limited in numbers by comparison , is alive and growing, Historically, the Shakers got their roots from the Quakers, and were known originally as the Shaking Quakers,
Interesting, I think, how all our different communities and beliefs have formed over the years. Still we all share much of the same music and hymns. Hope you enjoyed this little bit of trivia today.
Have a relaxing and restful Sunday!
When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be ashamed,..
I have counted at least 3 things I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1034.for simple ways
1035. for life in the slow lane
1036. for yet another beautiful fall day
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
...To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come 'round right
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

Not all Quaker congregation sing... but we have many meetings still alive and well in our area. There is a Friends Meeting in downtown Tonganoxie, in fact. My grandmother was a Quaker, and she and her sister became Catholics... and their father didn't speak to them for a while.
I did enjoy the trivia, Ma. I do remember singing that song, Simple Gifts, at various times in my life; such a pretty song and melody.
