If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
It was on this day in 1955 that the Tappen Company of Mansfield, Ohio introduced the first microwave oven for home use. Sales of microwave ovens surpassed the sales of gas stoves in 1975. Tappen was acquired by the firm of AB Electrolux in 1979 and the Tappan plant in Mansfield was closed in 1992.
When baking, follow directions. When cooking, go by your own taste.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
A half-baked idea is okay as long as it's in the oven.

I do love my microwave oven and use it just about every day, but I don't think that anything could replace my oven. To me, somethings just taste better when they've been baked in the oven.
In keeping with the season, it is time to turn the oven on and do some baking here at my house. It's pumpkin time and here’s one more recipe for the list: pumpkin snickerdoodles!
The subtle pumpkin flavor adds a nice spin to your everyday snickerdoodle, and the cookie comes out so soft and chewy! It’s a great dessert to bring to a potluck, party or just to have around the house on a Sunday afternoon.
2 3/4 Cups all-purpose flour
2 Teaspoons cream of tartar
1 Teaspoon baking soda
1/2 Teaspoon salt
1/2 Teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 1/2 Cups sugar plus another 1/4 cup
2 Sticks butter, softened
1 Large egg
3/4 cup pumpkin puree
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, and pumpkin pie spice. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 1/2 cups of sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg. Add the pumpkin puree and mix everything thoroughly. Slowly add the dry ingredient mixture a little at a time until everything is incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as necessary.
In a small, shallow bowl, mix together the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon. Take a heaping teaspoon full of dough and roll it into a ball. Roll the ball in the sugar/cinnamon mixture, and the place the ball on the cookie sheet. Flatten the ball so it’s about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. If you want thicker cookies, flatten the ball a little bit less. Make sure you space the cookies about 2 inches apart from each other.
Bake cookies for 9-12 minutes or until the edges and bottom start turning golden brown. The flatter you make the cookies, the shorter the bake time.
Makes about 2 dozen large cookies
Note: If the dough seems too sticky just let it sit for about 5 or 10 minutes. It should be easier to work with once it sits for a little bit.
Today's pictures are of our little Lucky guy at Boo at the Zoo last week.
Hope you all can enjoy something from the oven today and have a fantastic Friday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
If more of us valued food and cheer above hoarded gold, it would be a much merrier world
J.R. Tolkien
I have counted at least 3 things I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.

Everyone is kneaded out of the same dough but not baked in the same oven.

A bit of love from someone dear…

That is the cutest pumpkin-head costume I've ever seen, and I bet he had a blast!
Cute costume Lucky Guy has, Ma! I bet that was a fun afternoon for him. I remember hubby getting a microwave for Christmas the first year we were dating, back in 1979. I remember how expensive they were back then but what a convenience it was for warming up food, cooking, but you are right, there are some things that do taste better when cooked in the oven.
betty
Love your little Goblin Pam! How sweet! I am afraid I only use my microwave for heating things up. It is a convection oven as well, so that's good to know if I need to use it for that sort of thing that I can! I can still remember how large and how expensive our first Microwave oven was. It was HUGE and cost us almost a thousand dollars way back when! The mind boggles! xxoo
That's a cute scary pumpkin guy... We didn't get to go to the zoo boo this year... :)
