ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
NOBEMBER 16TH, 2009
It's MONDAY…
A car traveling at 100 mph would take more than 29 million years to reach our nearest star!
Just an interesting piece of trivia to start your day off. Here we are at the beginning of another new week. A new day to make the most of I always say.
THINKING
November is the month when we remember all the things we are thankful for and the One that makes them possible
The Shepherd God
Psalm 23:1-3
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Chunky Chocolate-Jam Bars
32 servings, one bar each
1-1/2 cups flour
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 tsp. CALUMET Baking Powder
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1-1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup BAKER'S ANGEL FLAKE Coconut
1/2 cup PLANTERS Chopped Pecans, toasted
5 squares BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate, coarsely chopped
1 jar (12 oz.) raspberry jam
PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Mix flour, brown sugar and baking powder in large bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add oats, coconut and pecans; mix well
PRESS half of the crumb mixture firmly onto bottom of greased 13x9-inch baking pan; sprinkle with chopped chocolate. Spoon jam over top; sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture
BAKE 25 to 30 min. or until lightly browned. Cool completely on wire rack
How to Toast Nuts Preheat oven to 350°F. Spread nuts in single layer on baking sheet. Bake 5 to 7 min. or until lightly toasted
Substitute Substitute apricot jam for the raspberry jam for a great apricot-chocolate bar
ENJOY!
ATTIRE FOR TODAY
On my calendar today it says the average temps for us in Ohio are 49/36. It looks like we’ll be just about right as they say it will be 52 for a high and 38 for a low. It does get a bit chilly at 38 degrees but thankfully the days do warm up. I’ve just been so thankful for the mild weather we’ve had. Very soon 38 will be our high for the day.
PRAYERS
Lord, help us to answer your call to bring your light into the world in the ways you choose for us
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
An optimist says that we live in the best of all possible worlds, A pessimist believes this is true
The week before Thanksgiving ( for me at least)
Final check list:
Put away extra things from the kitchen counters so you’ll have plenty of room to work
Make your shopping list and purchase the last things on your menu
Purchase your fresh produce items and get them chopped and prepared for final cooking
I’m almost ready now!
FAMILY ALBUM
There are plenty of leaves around for sure. I think that the city usually goes around and picks up the piles from the curb lawns, but so far they haven’t done that here. I think I may as well bag them for the garbage pickup. Everywhere you look there are more so even if I get rid of mine the wind will blow more our way I’m sure.
COUNTING THE DAYS
