ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
JANUARY 21ST, 2009
TODAY'S THOUGHT
A good book on your shelf is a friend
that turns its back on you and remains a friend.
Author Unknown
TODAY’S ACTION
A book is a gift you can open again and again.
Garrison Keillor
TODAY’S QUOTE
More than a building that houses books and data, the library has always been a window to a larger world - place where we've always come to discover big ideas and profound concepts that help move the American story forward.
Barack Obama
IT’S WEDNESDAY !!
OVER THE HUMP DAY!
Another cold winter day ahead and I’m still trying to keep warm.
I’ve layered all I can and refuse to turn up the furnace any higher, so I’m just making the most of a cold situation here.
Spring is coming…I keep counting down the days!!!
DS#6 says it was so cold a few days last week that his dogs refused to go for a walk. One of them laid down in the snow and curled his feet up trying to warm them. Now that is cold for sure. We gotta remember those pets can get frost bite too.
DS#1 and his family should be returning from their vacation. What a shock to the system it will be for them to return to Ohio. At least they got away from it for a short time.
2 more days until the weekend!!!
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !
TODAY’S PRAYERS
That they may all be one
John 17:21
O holy God, we pray for your church in the world.Lead us, towards communion in faith, life, and witness,so that, united in one body by the one Spirit,we may together witness to the perfect unity of your love
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
25 WORDS
God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me,
and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name
TO REMEMBER…
I am in the hands of God,
and in God’s time all things will be made well.
TODAY’S TRIVIA
Birthday of the American Novel - The first novel published in America, The Power of Sympathy, or the Triumph of Nature, was published in 1789
National Hugging Day - especially for hugging family and friends
Squirrel Appreciation Day is an opportunity to enjoy and appreciate your tree climbing, nut gathering neighborhood squirrels. It's held in mid-winter when food sources are scarce for squirrels and other wildlife. Sure, squirrels spent all fall gathering and "squirreling " away food. But, their supplies may not be enough. And, the variety of food is limited. So, give them an extra special treat today to supplement their winter diet
Golf legend Jack William Nicklaus (1940-) was born on this day in Columbus, Ohio. At age 10, he carded a 51 in the first nine holes he played.
Today is National Hot 'n' Spicy Food Day
Today is National Granola Bar Day
1677: America's first medical textbook is published in Boston
1954: The first atomic submarine, the USS "Nautilus," was launched at Groton, Connecticut
TODAY’S SMILE
English has some funny words
They give my mind the jitters
They sound the same to you and me,
But are spelled with different letters.
There's see and sea
And be and bee
It's terrible confusing!
There's new and knew
And through and threw.
It's really not amusing!
There's deer and dear
And here and hear.
It's horribly disturbing!
There's there and their
And bare and bear.
It's really most perturbing!
English is a Pain (Pane)
Rain, reign, rein
English is a pain.
Although the words
Sound just alike,T
he spelling's not the same
Bee, be, b
I'd rather climb a tree
Than learn to spell
The same old word,
Not just one way, but three!
Sight, site, cite,
I try with all my might.
No matter whichI finally choose,
It's not the one that's right!
There, their, they're,
Enough to make you swear.
Too many ways
To write the one sound,
I just don't think it's fair!
To, two, too
So what's a kid to do!
I think I'll go
To live on Mars
And leave this mess with ewe!
(you?)
TV. If kids are entertained by two letters,
imagine the fun they'll have with twenty-six.
Open your child's imagination.
Open a book.
