ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
JANUARY 15TH, 2009
TODAY'S THOUGHT
We may not be able to give much but we can always give the joy
that springs in a heart that is in love with God.
Mother Teresa
TODAY’S ACTION
Today, try something you have never tried before. Maybe just a food that is new to you - maybe a whole new way of living
TODAY’S QUOTE
Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve.
You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.
Martin Luther King, Jr
IT’S THURSDAY !!
BrrrChill!
The news says that we are going to be colder yet. By Friday, we could see minus 25 degrees with the wind chill. I don’t know about you, but that is way too cold for me.
Can somebody just turn the sunshine on???
I got a call from DDIL#1 yesterday letting me know that she was sitting outside in a t-shirt and light weight pants and was considering putting shorts on as she was getting hot.
Well, we all can’t go on vacation to the warm south, some of us are stuck in the cold north. I heard today that we are colder than the South Pole right now. Warnings are out warning people of the dangers of Frost bite and hypothermia. Be careful everyone and keep warm.
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !
TODAY’S PRAYERS
Lord, help us through this cold time. Protect those who have to be out in the adverse weather and those that have no heat or warm clothing in their homes. Give comfort to those struggling to get through these weary winter days.
We pray Thy will be done.
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
God Bless You!
25 WORDS
God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me,
and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name
TO REMEMBER…
I am in the hands of God,
and in God’s time all things will be made well.
TODAY’S TRIVIA
National Hat Day is set aside to wear and enjoy a hat of your choice and style. Isn't it great that hats come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and styles? There's one to fit every size head and personality. Often, hats are used to make a statement, or to promote a cause or a product.
Oh yeah... hats have logical uses, too. Some hats (Aka helmets), offer safety protection. Some hats keep your head warm....how boring
Did you know? More body heat is lost from your head than other parts of the body. So, wearing a hat goes a long way towards staying warm on a cold winter's day (or night)
Today is Basketball Day. The rules of basketball were published for the first time on this date in 1892, in Springfield, Massachusetts, where the game originated at the local YMCA
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on this day in 1929. His lifelong goal was to bring about social, political and economic equality for blacks. In the quest for his ideals, he became one of the greatest civil rights leaders of the 20th century. His birthday has been a public holiday in the United States since 1986, commemorated on the 3rd Monday in January
1936 - The first all glass, windowless building was completed in Toledo, Ohio as the home of the Owens-Illinois Glass Company Laboratory
1974: Happy Days premiered on ABC-TV. It starred Ron Howard, Anson Williams, and Donny Most, along with Tom Bosley, Marion Ross, and Erin Moran. Supporting actor Henry Winkler (The Fonz) quickly became a major star
TODAY’S SMILE
WHAT TO ANGELS LOOK LIKE
Like the little old lady who returned your wallet yesterday.
Like the taxi driver who told you that your eyes light up the world, when you smile.
Like the small child who showed you the wonder in simple things.
Like the poor man who offered to share his lunch with you.
Like the rich man who showed you that it really is all possible, if only you believe.
Like the stranger who just happened to come along, when you had lost your way.
Like the friend who touched your heart, when you didn't think you had one to touch.
Angels come in all sizes and shapes, all ages and skin types. Some with freckles, some with dimples, some with wrinkles, some without.
They come disguised as friends, enemies, teachers, students, lovers and fools. They don't take life too seriously, they travel light. They leave no forwarding address, they ask nothing in return.
They wear sneakers with gossamer wings, they get a deal on dry cleaning.
They are hard to find when our eyes are closed, but they are everywhere we look, when we choose to see
Be an angel today... and always.
Angels come in all sizes and shapes and colors, visible and invisible to the physical eye. But always you are changed from having seen one.
Sophy Burnham

TODAY’S REFLECTION
A leper came to him and kneeling down begged him and said,If you wish, you can make me clean
Matthew 1:40
What courage and trust in these words of the leper! The scene is remarkable in several ways. As was the custom of the time, lepers lived outside their village and were outcast from any family or friend. They had to ring a little bell to warn others of their diseased condition. Normal approaches were forbidden. But this leper senses that he can call to Jesus, trusting in his goodness. Jesus turns to the leper and touches him. To the assembled onlookers, this action was astounding. When the leper was healed, amazement rippled from the healed man out into the crowd. His joy overflowed and the news spread quickly. The leper and Jesus stepped out of their cultural mores and defeated the stigma and isolation of this disease. Lord, we pray for the courage of the leper, and we trust that you will touch us with your unswerving love. May we be alert to the confines of our own comfort zone, so that we are ready to help those around us
