Today is Independence Day which is commonly known as the 4th of July. It’s been a Federal holiday since 1941 and it commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776.
The 4th of July celebrates the history, government, and traditions of the United States and is an opportunity for a reunion of family and friends. The celebrations are also marked by patriotic displays, both decorations and clothing are colored white red and blue like the colors of the American Flag.
Popular songs to be played on the 4th of July or especially during fireworks are. The Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful and God Bless America. If the holiday does not take place on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, some fireworks displays may take place the following weekend.
On July 2nd, 1776 the Continental Congress voted in favor of Independence. On July 4th its 56 delegates finally adopted the Declaration of Independence and the original 13 colonies became the United States of America. It’s the brith of American Independence.
This historical document established many of our nations fundamental principles of freedom including life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Thomas Jefferson was the main author of the Declaration of Independence, but four other delegates assisted him. Among them was John Adams.. Both Adams and Jefferson later served as President of the United States and both men passed away on July 4, 1826- the 50th anniversary of our nation’s birth.

I’m proud to be an American and proudly display the American flag and its colors. I’ll be wearing my red white and blue today. We are experiencing a heat wave this weekend and everyone is looking for ways to stay cool. DS#5 is having us over to swim at his pool today. He has a nice shady back yard to have a little cook out for lunch too. I’m taking some hot dogs and pasta salad and DD said she has some watermelon to share. The kids will be glad to see each other. and we’ll be having lots of fun .
DD got a new above ground pool summer but it’s not going to be set up until Monday. It was supposed to have been done the beginning of June, but was delayed. So they are waiting in anticipation of having their own pool to enjoy.
I had a pleasant surprise yesterday as an Aunt and Cousin on my Dad’s side of the family came to visit for awhile yesterday. She’s celebrating her birthday soon and thought she’d visit while she still could. That’s the first visit I’ve had besides my immediate family in a long long time.She said her original birth certificate said her birthday was July but the official document for Social Security said her birthday was in August. So she’s sticking with the one provided by her church for July. They didn’t keep records then as well as they do now.
For today, DD is bringing my groceries by and then taking me over to DS#5’s house with her. It’s sure to be a nice little celebration! Hopefully I’ll have pictures to share tomorrow. Today’s pictures are from previous 4th of July celebrations shared by my family.

Sounds like a great celebration you'll be having Ma with your family!! Glad you guys can get together like this! I know DD and her family will enjoy the pool when it gets set up. We do like ours for these hot summer days! How fun with the visit of your aunt and cousin. Its funny how records were kept back then. Hubby's dad's birth was recorded a year later than he actually was born. Official records had him born in 1924 when he was actually born 1923. Took awhile to get it all sorted out.

What a beautiful little girl! Glad to hear you enjoyed having company … and are looking forward to celebrating with family today! I've another blog friend who's been waiting a long while now for her pool to be set up -- they say those have been selling like hotcakes since the onset of Covid-19. I hope theirs will be ready before long!
