ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SATURDAY, JULY 18TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is World Listening Day which is put on by the World Listening Project, a nonprofit organization that is devoted to understanding the world and its natural environment, societies and cultures through the practice of listening and field recording. They explore acoustic ecology, a discipline that studies the relationship between humans and the natural world as mediated through sound. It falls on the birthday of Raymond Murray Schafer, a Canadian composer and environmentalist who is seen as the founder of acoustic ecology.
World Listening Day was established in 2010, and each year the holiday has a specific theme to it. Past themes include H20, Sounds lost and found. and Listen to You. This year’s theme is Listening to the ground, which asks us to consider the sounds of the literal ground and all its surfaces, from soils too asphalt. whether we’re losing metaphorical ground, and whether we can find new sound by listening for it. So quiet down , open your ears and get ready to study soundscapes on World Listening Day.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I remind myself every morning. Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I’m going to learn I must do it by listening.
Larry King
One of my favorite sound scapes is the Beach. Listening to the waves roll in and out on the shoreline. It’s very relaxing and soothing. There are many different ones you can try out to find your favorite. Listening is very important so that we an identify what’s going on around us. Not only in time and space, but with the people we are with. We cannot hear someone talk if we are the ones doing all the speaking.
Without the ability to listen effectively, the messages are easily misunderstood. If there is one communication skill you should aim to master, then listening is it. We have ears that hear very well, but seldom have they acquired the skill of listening. Listening is so much more than hearing. We not only open our ears, but our minds as well. and sometimes our hearts too.
Listening is something you can do with everything around you, and it offers many benefits and encourages the speaker to feel valued as well. You can’t do well academically if you don’t pay attention to the instructions. You’ll get in trouble with your parents at home if you drown out what they say when laying down the rules. And you won’t keep a job, if you ignore you bosses orders. Good listening connects you to the world around you and helps you understand your responsibilities.
Today I’ve got a recipe to share for the weekend. It’s hot out and time to keep cool. So I found a refreshing salad to fix.
BLT Chicken Salad
1/2 c mayonnaise
4 or 5 tbsp. barbecue sauce
2 tbsp. finely chopped onion
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp pepper
8 cups torn salad greens
2 large tomatoes, chopped
1 1/2 lb. boneless skinless chicken
breasts cooked and cubed
10 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
2 hard boiled eggs, sliced
In a small bowl, combine first 5 ingredients; mix well . Cover and refrigerate. Place salad greens in large bowl. Sprinkle with tomatoes. chicken, and bacon. Garnish with eggs. Drizzle with dressing
We are in the 90’s and it’s very hot so I’m thinking, I’ll probably go visit with DD and her pool today. Along with the heat we also have an air quality alert which makes breathing hard for some so otherwise it’s a good day to stay in the air conditioning. The picture above is a clever rack that DD made with an idea from pinterest for holding all the pool toys. And the one below is of her son before their new pool was completely filled with water. He couldn’t wait to get in.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you’d prefered to talk.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
8291. for good hearing
8292. someone to listen to
8293. for a daughter with a pool.
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
God gave us two ears and one mouth so we can hear twice as much as we say.

Try to keep cool and safe today and remember to stay well hydrated.
Aw, your grand-pups are adorable! Are they allowed in the pool, I wonder?
I wasn't aware of the World Listening Project, but it sounds fascinating. Yep, someone who hears -- but isn't really listening -- is a real pet peeve. It's like they're only mentally composing their own response; besides, it's not very respectful. And like you've pointed out, it could very well cause problems in the workplace.
Have a good time in the pool! Happy Saturday!
Hope you get to spend some time at your daughter's pool! Looks real nice! Yum on that chicken salad too. I hadn't heard of World Listening Day. Interesting how they have yearly themes. I'll have to do some listening today thought it will be hot outside on the ground.

The sound of the waves is my all time favorite soundscape too - it's like hearing mother nature speak. Love all your photos. That rack for the pool toys is fantastic! Another great recipe too. Enjoy your pool time today :)
The photos are great. World Listening Day---does any one ever honor it, on this day or any other day.
