ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR THURSDAY, APRIL 9TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Cherish an Antique Day which is the day to polish them up and put them on display. People have been collecting Antiques since the beginning of our history. We have always been fascinated by the stories behind these curiosities and the rare glimpse they give us into the lives of our predecessors
In 1979 the first episode of Antiques Roadshow aired in the United Kingdom. Local residents presented their family heirlooms and collections for appraisal and learned their true value. The show was an instant success and is still in production today. On the American version of the show, the most valuable find to date was a set of carved rhinoceros horn cups which were appeared at $1 to 1.5 million.
To celebrate National Cherish an Antique Day learn the story behind your favorite Antiques and share the tale with family and friends.
Happy Antiquing!
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
An antique is anything old with class.
John Barlett
The oldest thing I have in my house is the mantle clock that sits on the sideboard here in my living room. I’ve checked it out on line, and it isn’t really very valuable at all. It seems it was a very common variety of clocks made at the time and there are many of them available.
I cherish it because it was an anniversary gift from my parents many years ago. I know that they bought it at an auction sale and had it on their own mantle for several years, before they gave it to me. I’d admired it for years, so they knew I’d treasure it.
Most of the things in my house are old, very little is new, but there are not many antiques here. If I had to start all over again I’d gladly furnish my home with nothing but antiques. They don’t make things to last the way the used to.
I no longer have a mantle to put it on, so I put it on this old sideboard which is actually an antique of little or no value itself. A friend of DDH’s found it in a basement he was cleaning out years ago and thought we might enjoy in our dining room. I loved it and it’s become one of my favorite pieces of furniture. When I moved here it wouldn’t fit in the dining room space so it got put in the living room, which had an empty wall that was big enough for it.
Since I’m now an antique in my own right, I’d say we should cherish all antiques, especially those like me that have been around for quite a long time now.
I hope you have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!!

Cherish your antiques.
We don't have many antiques here either. And I don't think what we have is worth a lot of stuff except the memories that they carry with them. We too are antiques Ma; so I cherish you as I know you cherish your antique blog friends!

Many years ago my mother had lots of her possessions appraised. Nothing of high value, but it made her feel better. I've all her glassware now, and it's makes me a little sad when I go to estate sales and see those items largely ignored. Like Betty said, I treasure those items around my home not for their value, but memories.
I remember the antiques at my grandparents' houses. Wish I had them now!!
