ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR TUESDAY, APRIL 21ST, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Kindergarten Day which celebrates the preschool educational institution for children and honors the creator of the concept of kindergarten, Friedrich Frobel born on April 21, 1782. for the play and activity institute that he created in 1837 in Bad Blankenburg as a social experience for children for their transition from home to school. His goal was that children should be taken care of and nourished in children’s gardens like plants in a garden.
The term kindergarten is used around the world to describe a variety of different institutions that have been developed for children ranging from the ages of two to seven, depending on the country concerned. Many of the activities developed by Frobel are also used around the world under other names.
In the United States, kindergartens are usually a part of the K-12 educational system. It is only one school year. Children usually attend kindergarten around age 5 to 6. Kindergarten is considered the first year of formal education, although the child may have gone to preschool or PreK.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
It’s a happy talent to know how to play.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Kindergarten certainly has changed over the years since I went to school. Today it’s almost a necessity for children to attend Preschool as they are learning what we used to in Kindergarten. And in Kindergarten they are now learning what they used to in First Grade. Everything seems to be advanced a year. When I was in kindergarten we mostly learned how to get along with other children and play together. I remember taking my little rug to have on hand for a nap everyday. It was a requirement at the time. And we were only there for 1/2 the day. Now kindergarten is a full day in most places.
My youngest son was the first of my children to attend full day kindergarten. He was used to a nap every afternoon and he missed it a lot. He’d come home every day and wind up going to sleep while watching cartoons after school. He’d wake up at dinner time and be good to go after that.
With parents pretty much all home schooling these days, I’m sure the kids are all missing their classmates. Getting along with their fellow students is an important part of school they are missing that right now. Those with brothers and sisters are better off than those who are only children. But this isn’t going to last forever and hepefully soon we’ll be back on track.
I don’t have anyone here with me either,so I know what that feels like. But one thing I do is take advantage of that afternoon nap. It’s good for us they say an afternoon nap is great for adults too. There is no need to feel lazy for indulging. A short nap in the mid afternoon can boost memory, improve job performance, lift your mood and make you more alert and ease stress.
I have had some opportunities to visit some of my grandchildren’s class rooms and that is what the pictures are of today. Our Xfactor in preschool and Kindergarten.
I hope you have a TERRIFIC Tuesday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.

may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

There's nothing like a long afternoon nap...
I agree!
I've not a lot of early memories, but sure remember my excitement at going to kindergarten and how much I loved it all. I'd be hard-pressed to define them, but I can still remember the peculiar aromas surrounding that old wooden structure.
That last photo of your X-Factor is absolutely endearing. How proud he looks!
Such cute pictures! Kids are always so excited to get to go to school! I remember bits and pieces of my kindergarten year but I definitely do remember taking naps there. Its hard to believe by the wee one will be starting kindergarten in 2021!
