ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 10TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.
Today is Good Friday which is not an official holiday the United States. Regular services continue according to schedule However, some financial institutions as well as many businesses, public schools and universities are closed on Good Friday. It’s the day Christians commemorate the cruxifixction of Jesus Christ. It represents the sacrifices and suffering in Jesus life. The cruxifixction was the culmination of a number events in Holy Week, including the triumphant return of Jesus to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. The washing of the disciples feet by Jesus, and the Last Supper on Maunday Thursday.
Some churches will organize a prayer vigil on Good Friday for various causes. Most observe a period of prayerful silence especially between the hours of noon and 3 pm. The crucifix, or cross, which represents the way Jesus died is an important symbol seen on Good Friday.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
It is the resurrection that make Good Friday good.
Now that we are sheltering at home, everything is closed this Good Friday! For years I’ve picked up Hot Cross Buns to have today. But I haven’t been out to shop at all, so today I’m going to be making a version of them here at home.
Easy Hot Cross Buns
1 package refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp packed brown sugar
1/2 cup raisins divided
1 egg lightly beaten
5 tbsp. confectioners sugar
1 tsp. water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Gently stretch each biscuit into a 4 inch circle. Mix cinnamon and brown sugar in a bowl. Sprinkle 1/4 tsp. cinnamon mixture and 1 tbsp. raisins over half of each biscuit. Fold over plan biscuit half onto raisin half. Fold again, pinching edges to seal. Gently shape into a ball. Repeat with remaining biscuits. Place buns in a lightly greased 9 inch cake pan. Evenly spacing them apart. Brush bun tops with beaten egg.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Remove buns onto cooling rack , cool completely..
Mix confectioners sugar and water in a small bowl. Spoon into small resealable plastic bag. Close bag tightly and snip off one corner then pipe the shape of an X on top of each bun.
Not as good as those from the bakery, but better than nothing. These are days of making do with what you have.
Today I’m also going to boil some eggs for coloring and for deviled eggs, which are tradition in our family for Easter.
I got my first Easter gift in the mail from DDIL#1 yesterday and that’s is what todays pictures are of. What a surprise!. Instead of taking me out to Easter lunch, she sent lunch for me to have for several days. It was a package filled with everything I needed. It had a loaf of Marble rye bread, potato chips, a package of ham, cheddar cheese and swiss cheese and even some good dijon mustard to make sandwiches with and a chocolate bar for dessert. It all came in a nice reusable insulated bag too Every thing I need for my Easter lunch, and I’m making a bowl of potato salad to have with it, along with a dish of baked beans.
I received an Easter card from DS#2 and his wife the day before. . AND DS#6 has invited me to join them for a virtual Easter dinner. Looks like I’ll be all set to celebrate Easter
Sadly I didn’t venture out to put anything in the mail for my family this year. I’m a wimp and have been staying in. I’m of a vulnerable age and stay home. I will keep it all on hand for when ever we are able to get together again.
Fridays have always been a good day for me. They are my favorite day of the week. When I was working, it was the promise of the weekend ahead that made me happy, now it’s a day to look back at what I was able to get done for the week.. While it’s not always, much, at least I was able to accomplish something. Today I’ll be celebrating by watching our church services which will be streaming on line at 3:00 pm. I’m so thankful for the internet.
I hope you have a FANTASTIC Friday!!
