ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SUNDAY, APRIL 26TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Pretzel Day, which celebrates the unique knot shaped, salty treat. Pretzels were created by monks centuries ago from scraps of leftover dough. Their shape represented the holy Trinity, but the significance of this symbol has evolved over the course of history.
During the 17th century, pretzels symbolized the bond of marriage . This is where the phrase , tying the knot, originated. Today traditional soft pretzels are popular at sporting events, carnivals and festivals.
Hard pretzels are a fairly new invention compared to the original soft pretzels. According to legend, in the late 1600’s a Pennsylvania baker forgot a batch of pretzels in the oven. The over baked treats were dark and hard, but the baker sampled one anyway and was pleasantly surprised by the crunchy deliciousness. Hard pretzels are now one of the most popular snack foods.
To celebrate National Pretzel Day, pick up a bag of your favorite type of pretzels to enjoy today!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
A life without twists and turns is imcomplete

I love soft pretzels with butter on them and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. And I also like small hard pretzels dipped in chip dip. They Both make a good snack. The last time I had a soft pretzel was when I was in Florida while waiting for two of my DDIL’s to go into the Apple Store for my new phone. You can’t stop at just one. The more I ate the more I wanted. So that’s a good memory for me today.
We can even make our own pretzels and that is what the recipe is for today.
Homemade Soft Prezels
for the Dough:
2.25. tsp. instant quick rise yeast.
1 c, warn water
1 tso, sugar
2.5 c. flour
1/2 tsp sea salt
for the topping
1/2 c. warm water
1 tbsp baking soda
vegetable oil for greasing the sheet pan
Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
3 tbsp. butter, melted
Combine the yeast, warm water and sugar in a bowl and let sit for ten minutes until foamy. This indicates the yeast is alive and working. Add the flour and salt. Mix well. The dough should feel soft and smooth, not sticky to the touch. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees and lightly grease a baking sheet with the vegetable oil You could use parchment paper instead.
Place the dough onto a lightly oiled counter top. Divide into 8 pieces.
Whisk to combine the warm water and baking soda and cook in the microwave for 1 minute. Roll each of the 8 pieces into a long rope and shape each into a pretzel. Dip pretzels into soda wash and places onto the prepared sheet. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and let them rest 10 minutes
Bake for 9 to 10 minutes until they are golden brown. Brush pretzels with melted butter. Enjoy!
I hope you have a RELAXING Sunday!
PRAYER REQUEST
DS#5 has requested prayers for his FIL who has been hospitalized for kidney failure caused by an kindney stone. They have done a short procedure to place a stint in his kidney . If his bloodwork is good, he should be going home by tomorrow. Then in a couple of weeks he’ll go back to have the stone removed. Then sometime later he’ll get the stent removed. Please join me in praying that all goes well and he is soon as good as new.

Hoping you are can enjoy a relaxing Sunday!
I like pretzels. I recently found some unsalted ones at the dollar store. They are surprisingly delicious! I grab a handful and snack on them occasionally. Hope your Sunday is a peaceful one Ma!

You're making my mouth water! (*smile*) That's interesting about the shape of a pretzel signifying the Holy Trinity; even tying the knot. It's been a long time since I enjoyed pretzels; have you ever tried dipping them in mustard?
Lifting your son's FIL in prayer right now!
He must have experienced some real pain, God bless him.
Will be praying for the FIL.....
I have a box of frozen pretzels at home! Think I will be a few when I get back!
