ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5TH,2019
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Repeal Day which is the anniversary of the day that the US repealed the 18th Amendment, restoring the right to purchase and consume acolhol.
The 18th Ammentment which was ratified on January 16, 1919, prohibited the manufacture, sal and transportation of liquor throughout the United Sttes. Prohibition led to the widespread disrespect for the law. New Your City alone had about 30, 000 speakeasies by 1927 Eventually many influential and repsected citizens including John D. Rockefeller Jr. came forward and organized a counter movement. The 21st Amendment ending Prohibition was ratified on December 5, 1933.
Repeal day is a celebration of the balance of power in the US and of the individual freedom that allows each American to choose whether or not to drink alcohol.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
A Christmas wish, may you never forget
what is worth remembering or remember
what is best forgotten.

I think its a good thing to have a right to do as we choose. We are the ones responsible for how we live our lives and we need to take responsibility for our choices too. No one is to blame for the life we live except for us. We all make our choices . And the nice thing is that we aren’t stuck with them, we can begin again each and every day.
I don’t think all my choices have been good ones but I am thankful for those that were good ones. I’m happy with the life I have and am content with what I have.
I don’t drink a lot of alcohol and never have. It’s important know what your limits are and to avoid bad habits that could become addictions. That’s not to say I never do, sometimes it’s a means af relaxing or enjoying another’s company.
I found this recipe for a Christmas drink to share with you all today. It sound good but I’ve yet to make it. My husband’s uncle used to make this every Christmas and serve it when we’d visit. We do own an antique bowl and cups for serving it. I think DS#5 has it at this point.
Tom and Jerry
12 eggs separated
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 cu, 1 stick butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp vailla
2 oz. rum
For the drink:
1 tbsp. Tom and Jerry batter
1 oz rum
4 oz. milk, hot or hot water
garnish; grated nutmeg
To make the batter:
Separate the egg white from the yolk and place into individual bowls. Add Cream of tartar to the egg whites and ship with a mixer until you have stiff peaks. Add the softened butter and sugar to the bowl of egg yours and whip until it’s fully incorporated and a liquid.Gently fold the egg yolk mixture into the egg whites. Stir in the cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg vanilla and rum.
Cover and store batter in the refrigerator until it’s time to make the drink.
To Make the Drink:
Add 1 heaping tablespoon of the batter and 1 oz of rum to each mug. Pour in hot water or milk or a combination of both and stir until the drink is foamy. I do remember them pouring boiling water from a teakettle to do this. Garnish with grated nutmeg. It was said that a bowl of hot Tom and Jerry was served at the pub my husbands grandfather owned every Christmas eve.
I also love the fact than anyone can enjoy a Welch’s non alcoholic Sparkling drink without having to worry about if they drink or not It’s a good idea to keep a few bottles tucked away for last minute holiday events. They make a good gift to give too, just wrap a bow around the bottles and take them with you.
Today’s pictures are from Christmases past, take time to remember.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!!

Wishing you a merry Christms season.
Those were great pictures from Christmases past, Ma! That was an interesting drink too! I saw a video recently on someone making homemade eggnog; that sounded delicious too! My in-laws always did a toast on Christmas Eve using sparkling apple cider. Nice tradition indeed!

I always learn something new when I come over here. I have never seen a recipe for a Tom & Jerry. It sounds interesting. Hope you are doing well.
Oh my word, Ma. Is that you son in the second Santa suit? (The smile looks familiar.)
My mother made a recipe much like your Tom and Jerry and kept it refrigerated … only she used a carton of vanilla ice cream. I don't know whatever happened to her recipe, but I'm clipping and pasting yours!
My Uncle made Tom and Jerry's when I was a girl. I got to have the Jerry but not the Tom:)
