ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8TH,2019
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Christmas Tree Day which honors the prominent decoration for those who celebrate Christmas. The day is often celebrated by aquiring, putting up, and decorating a Christmas Tree.
The roots of the Christmas tree go back to ancient pagan holidays when people decorated their homes with evergreen branches during the winter solstice to remind themselves that spring wasn’t too far away.
The tradition of having Christms trees came about in western Germany. They also added candles symbolizing Christ as light of the world. It was a widespread tradition by the 18th century. Christmas trees gained popularity around the english speaking world when a sketch of Queen Victoria and her family appeared next to a Christmas tree in their home in the 1840’s. Victoria’s husband, Albert, had been born in Germany.
German and Irish immigrants to America helped to popularize Christmas trees in the 19th century. Christmas trees are used as both outdoor and indoor decorations and are adorned with lights, ornaments, tinsel, and garland.
The most common trees used for Christmas trees are blue spruce, Douglas fir, balsam fir, Scots pine, white pine, noble fir, and Frazier fir. Somewhere around 30 million really trees are cut down each year in the US to be used as Christmas trees. In addition around 10 million artificial trees are sold each year in the US.
Have Happy Christmas Tree Day!
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The Christmas tree is a symbol of love.
Andy Rooney
I no longer put up a regular size Chestmas tree here at my house. Instead I have 3 little table top ones that I use every year. One for the living room area and one for the dining room and the last for the kitchen. They came prelit and decorated and stay that way.
I’ve learned to make things easier for myself in anyway I can and this saves hours of time and work, but not nearly as pretty .I miss the pine scent of a real tree and burn scented candles to get the effect.
Today is the 2nd Sunday of Advent and I’ll be burning two candles on my wreath today and saying a prayer for those preparing for Christmas. The 2nd candle represents the hope of Christ coming to the world as we eagerly anticipate Christmas.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
The best gifts in life will never be found under a Christmas tree, those gifts are friends, family, children, and the one you love.

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Some Christmas tree ornaments do more than glitter and glow, they represent a gift of love given a long time ago.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

The best gifts under the tree is a happy family all wrapped up in each other.
Your wee tree is so sweet! If given the chance, I'd do the same thing -- in fact, my favorite is one my mother made. Oh well, Tom wanted something more substantial this year. Fortunately, after our last 'real' tree killed the vacuum cleaner a number of years ago, he agreed to go with the artificial variety.
PS - I didn't know this history of how the Christmas trees came about. Thanks!
