ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 14TH, 2019
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Desserts Day which is the perfect day to satisfy your sweet tooth. Although desserts are typically eaten after a meal, they can be enjoyed at any time. Desserts grew in popularity after the advent of international sugar trading. Once sugar arrived in Europe in the 12th center, more desserts were slowly introduced . In fact the first written apple pie recipe can be traced back to England in 1381. the industrial Revolution also furthered the popularity of desserts as mass production introduced new processing, preservation and packaging methods.
Whether it’s cookies, pie, or a cupcake, be sure to treat yourself to something special today to celebrate National Dessert Day.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side .
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Eat dessert first. The thing that you want to do the most, do that
Joss Whedon
There have been many times I’ve had dessert first. I pretty much eat what I want to when I want. I’m fortunate to not to have any dietary restrictions or allergies to stop me. When the babes were young, they had to eat their meal first as not to ruin their appetites, so desserts always came last. And we most always had some kind of dessert. Not always fancy but often in the form of jello or puddings.
Cookies were always on hand too for desssert for lunches or snacks. I did a lot of cooking then and baking. Cakes were usually served for special occasions like birthdays. Cookie bars and brownies were more for every day.
Today’s recipe is for brownies.
The Best Brownies
1/2 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 c. cocoa powder
1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
Frosting
3 tbsp. butter, softened
3 tbsp. cocoa powder
1 tbsp. honey
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. confectioners sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour an 8 inch square pan
In large sauce pan , melt 1/2 c.butter. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, eggs, and 1 tsp vanilla. Beat in 1/3 c. cocoa, 1/2 c. flour, salt and baking powder. Spread batter in prepare pan
Bake in preheated oven 25 to 30 minutes. Do not overcook.
To make frosting: Combine 3 tbsp. softened butter, 3 tbsp. cocoa, honey, 2 tsp. vanilla and 1 c. confectioner’s sugar. Stir until smooth. Frost brownies while they are still warm.
Simple but good, brownies always seem to hit the spot. When you serve them warm with a scoop of ice cream on top and a drizzle of chocolate syrup, they become supreme.
It was a pretty sunny weekend here, but also on the chilly side and the afternoon was quite windy. Lots of acorns hit the ground. DDIL# 6 sent pictures of their visit to the apple orchard and pumpkin farm and that is what is shown today.
No doubt they will be having some apple pie soon! And DDIL # 1 made apple butter and that picture is shown below.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!

An apple a day will keep the doctor away!
Cute pictures of the little ones..
Cute pumpkin patch photos! Yummy on the brownie recipe! We seemed to eat a lot of dessert this past weekend, LOL. I usually don't but we found ourselves at restaurants that served unique desserts so of course we had to try them out. Now back to healthy eating this week!

I used to love the apple butter my parents would buy at the Amish marketplace! Funny, I don't much care for apples, but one of the ladies brought a 'from-scratch' apple crisp to Bible study this morning and it was deee-licious!
