ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is National Day of the Cowboy which was created to preserve the role and the contributions cowboys and cow girls made to the western heritage and history of our country.
Shortly after the Civil War, cowboys and cow girls began to appear in America’s heartland and wild west. They were largely ranchers and ranch hands, raising cattle and other animals. Cowboys herded them across the plains to feed a growing American population.
It was a wild and often lawless time. Cowboys developed their own code to live by. They were simple and logical rules of behavior. The rules could readily apply at any time, even today.
Cowboy Code of Conduct
Live each day with honesty and courage
Take pride in your work. Always do your best
Stay curious, Study hard and learn all you can.
Do what has to be done and finish what you start.
Be tough, but fair.
When you make a promise, keep it.
Be clean in thought word, deed and dress.
Practice tolerance and understanding of others.
Be willing to stand up for what is right.
Be an excellent steward of the land and its animals.
Happy National Day of the Cowboy!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
No cowboy was ever faster on the draw than a grand parent pulling o baby picture out of a wallet.

That’s me, fast to show pictures of my grandchildren. I certainly have a lot of both. Pictures and grandchildren ! Today’s pictures are some of family that live out west and though they aren’t cowboys, there are a lot of cowboys where they live.
I’ll never forget the time I landed in Missouri and saw the golden arch leading into the west. The airport was full of cowboys hats and boots. I felt quite out of place in my ordinary clothes. Westerners do love their hats and boots. That was when I visited California many years ago.
The pictures of this visit were in a different state, and many years later than the first one, but in the west for sure. We stopped and did some shopping where there were all kinds of souvenirs to take home. I tried on some boots but sadly never found any that never fit me right.
This morning I’ll be making my Cowboy beans in the crockpot so they’d be ready for this afternoon’s get together and thought I’d share the recipe.
Cowboy Beans
2 cans, 15 oz., pork and beans, undrained
1 can, 15oz., great northern beans drained and rinsed
1 can , 15 oz., pinto beans drained and rinsed
1 ring smoked sausage, cut into 1 inch pieces
1/2 c. chopped onion
1/2 c. ketchup
1/4 c. packed brown sugar
2 tbsp. cider vinegar
2 1/2 tsp. ground mustard
1 1/2 tsp chili powder
Spray slow cooker with cooking spray. Mix all ingredients in cooker. Cover and cook on low 5 to 7 hours.
Makes 5 generous servings
It’s looking like a great day here. It’ll be mostly sunny with temps in the upper 70’s so it’s going to be a good day to be outdoors.
I hope you all have a Super Saturday!
My hope and prayer is that everyone know and love our country for what she really is and what she stands for.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
6200. for cowboys, their history and their contribution
6201. for family to visit, new places to see
6202. for good times that get us through the tough times
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
All I need to know about life, I learned from a cow.
If it’s good, milk it for all it’s worth
Successful people are the moo-vers and the shakers
Don’t be just one of the heard
The cream always rise to the top
Don’t stoop to a barnyard mentality
Don’t be bossy
It’s better to have milked and churned than to have never milked at all
If you need to get somewhere, hoof it
Some days can be udder frustration
If you’re feeling low, moo yourself a little song
Chew your food 50 times before swallowing
Don’t let others corral you
Munch hay while the sun shines
He who lives with the herd learned to watch his step
Following your heart will always steer you in the right direction
Party till the cows come home
Live for heifer young
Here a moo, there a moo, every where a moo-moo!
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

Happy trails to you until we meet again...
I too cannot find boots that fit. I think because my calves are a bit bigger than average. Lots of cowboys up in Prescott where we used to live when the rodeo came int town :)
betty
Steaming Willie Nelson in my mind right now: "My heroes have always been cowboys...." (But I loved Roy Rogers' theme song, too.)
For years now I've been vowing to find a pair cowboy boots. In the end, I'm probably too cheap. LOL!
Thanks for sharing another crockpot recipe. How I wish my hubby would even consider eating beans!
I had to print out that recipe for Cowboy Beans right away. It looks fabulous and we do love beans! I might use hotdogs instead of smoked sausage however. My Todd always wanted to be a Cowboy. Our friends in Arizona bought him a couple of western shirts and a beautiful belt buckle. I got him a stetson when I was in Idaho, but he rarely wears it as a steton in the UK, is definitely out of place! I probably would never be able to get cowboy boots that fit. Love all of your family photos, and your "cowboys!" You have a lovely family! Thanks so much for all that you share! You are such a bright spot in the blogging community! xoxo
