ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Flag Day, which is a day for all Americans to celebrate and show respect for our flag, its designers and makers. Our flag is representative of our independence and unity as a nation…one nation, under God, indivisible. Our flag has a proud and glorious history .
It was on this day in 1777 the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Resolution which designated the first American flag. The first flag featured thirteen stars and thirteen strips. The one we use today features fifty stars, one for each state that makes up our great nation. This version was adopted on July 4, 1960 to acknowledge Hawaii’s addition as a US state.
As Americans, we can be proud of our culture, our nation, and our flag. So raise the flag today and every day with pride.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The red and white and starry blue
Is freedoms shield and hope.
John Philip Sousa
I was taught to love and honor the flag, as many of us were, when we were children and recited the Pledge of Allegiance every day at the beginning of the school day. As I’ve grown older that is something that has never changed.
It’s the birthday of our flag and a day to be celebrated for sure.
I found the patriotic banner, in the picture above, last year at Aldi’s of all places, and today it’s time to hang it up again!
It’s also the time of year when red white and blue desserts become popular. From Flag Day to the 4th of July, we see them every where and most are made or topped with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream.
As today is also Strawberry Shortcake Day here’s a recipe to celebrate
Red White and Blue Shortcake
1 package yellow cake mix
1 container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 pint blueberries, rinsed and drained
2 pints fresh strawberries, rinsed and sliced
Prepare cake according to package directions and bake in a 9 by 13 inch pan. Cool completely.
Frost cake with whipped topping. Place blueberries in a square in the corner, and arrange sliced strawberries as stripes to make an American flag. Chill until served.
It sounds both easy and delicious.
I hope to be outside today with the yard work, with a few ice tea breaks in between.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
You’re the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
George M Cohan
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
6068. for our flag, a symbol of freedom and unity
6069. for shady place to sit when it’s hot
6070. for strawberries, so very good for you
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Oh! say, does that star spangled banner yet wave,

Fly your flag today!
Happy Flag Day!
I'm on my way now to put my flags up in the front yard. 😀
Happy Flag Day! I like your banner a lot!
I wonder if the kids still begin their day with the Pledge of Allegiance at school. I remember gathering outside when weather permitted to watch the flag be put up and then at the end of the school day again gathering outside watching it be taken down. Did help to build respect indeed for the flag :)
betty
I like your banner. We have the American flag flying year round in front of our house!
Happy Flag Day!
