ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Festival of Sleep Day which is an opportunity to sleep in, snooze, doze, nap, and catch 40 winks.
It's the perfect date for Festival of Sleep Day. The holidays are over. It's cold and snowy and time to hibernate. Why not recharge the batteries as a new year of school and work begins.
Festival of Sleep Day is a favorite holiday to catch up on a little sleep. Whether its all day, a full 8 hours, or just a power nap, enjoy the day sleeping. Cozy up in bed, on the couch, or any other comfortable place. The Surgeon General has determined that sleeping is good for your health. Caution: sleeping at work is not recommended, today, or any day.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor's book.
Irish Proverb
Sad to say, I do sleep most of the winter away. I am like a bear that hibernates. I do get up early but also take a nap or two every day and go to sleep early at night too.
These cold dark days of winter are good for sleeping and I take advantage of it. I’ve tried different things to see if they would help, like turning on more lights around here, but it doesn’t make any difference, I can sleep with lights on just as well as I do in the the dark. Ha !
With all that said I am endeavoring to get things in order here. After Christmas and New Years things are topsy turvy and January 6th is just around the corner when all the Christmas decorations will come down here. I’ll be leaving up a few snowmen and snow fakes but when February rolls around they will disappear too.
Decorating the house for the different months is a fun thing that I like to do and it helps when it comes to doing a bit of cleaning too.
I'm not asleep... but that doesn't mean I'm awake.

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is Fruitcake Toss Day! Fruitcakes are the holiday gift that no one asks for, but many people receive. If you still haven’t eaten or regifted your holiday fruitcake, today is the perfect excuse to toss it. Start the year with a clean pantry!
There are several things that need tossing here at my house. I will toss the fruitcake I purchased at the store because it was not good at all. I do like them but this one was not worth the price I paid for it.
Both the pantry and the fridge need a good cleaning out here. But I did want to share a recipe with you so I looked for a possible way to reuse fruit cake and this is what I found.
Fruitcake makes great bread pudding. You can slice it, dip it in egg and fry it into a rich French toast. Cut it into cubes and layer it with vanilla pudding or custard and fruit and it becomes a trifle.
Here’s a recipe for fruitcake bread pudding, which would use up any leftovers in one sitting. Don’t tell folks it was made with fruitcake, and watch it disappear.
FRUITCAKE BREAD PUDDING
1 loaf fruitcake, 1 lb. size
3 cups whole milk
1/2 cup sugar
4 eggs, beaten
Whipped cream, for serving
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix sugar and eggs together, then add milk and stir.
Tear or cut fruitcake into bite size pieces. Put cake in ungreased baking dish or casserole dish.
Pour milk and egg mixture over the cake cubes. Place dish in refrigerator to allow mixture to soak into cake for at least 15 minutes before baking. It can stay in refrigerator up to several hours.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Serve warm, topped with whipped cream.
Makes six servings.
This is my favorite cozy robe modeled by one of my granddaughters.

ADVICE FOR TODAY
If people were meant to pop out of bed, we'd all sleep in toasters.

Your granddaughter wears your robe well!
I’m thinking naps may be in order for this afternoon! I’m going over to pick up the Quadruplets and keep them here until time for bed. That will make a long day and a nice nap for all of us in the den in front of the fireplace will fit the bill just fine! They go back to school on the 9th. Amber is sick so this will give her a day to stay in bed and get well.
We will warm up to the 40’s so we may all take a walk together.
Happy Wednesday to you, my dear!
Oh, how I wish I had the knack for taking naps. My hubby usually takes one every afternoon, but even when I'm dog-tired, my mind simply will NOT be still during the day. So I guess I fall into the category of your quote, "I'm not asleep, but that doesn't mean I'm awake."
I'll take your word for it that fruitcake works well as the basis for bread pudding. Not that there's been any fruitcake in our house in years, but if there were any here now, I'd be in the "Toss Day" camp. :)
How I love my naps! Usually I get home about 5P and lay my head down on the loveseat for 30-40 minutes.
Bless his heart, DH can't understand why I say laying down on the BED is just WRONG ... but then, he doesn't understand the therapeutic value of day-sleeping. :)
