ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

January 17 is Kid Inventors’ Day, a day to encourage all the children in your life to think outside the box and invent something.
The unofficial holiday commemorates the birthday of all around genius and kid inventor, Benjamin Franklin, and celebrates kid inventors around the world. It also aims to encourage children to be curious about the world around them and to be creative when solving problems.
Franklin, one of the most prolific person in history was responsible for inventing the precursor to the swimming flippers at the age of eleven, a year after he stopped going to school. His invention was made for the hands instead of the feet

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
One of the virtues of the very young is that you don't let facts get in the way of your imagination.
Sam Levinson
When I think about all the new inventions just in my lifetime alone, it is amazing. Who knows what is yet to come our way.
I’ve never been a very inventive person, and have often found myself saying, I wish I’d thought of that. Some things stare us in the face and we don’t realize just what we’re seeing. Great inventors are all able to see the world in new and unique ways. Our lives are filled with endless possibilities. We just have to open our minds to see them.
Although it is 5 degrees here this morning, we are to warm up here little by little and instead of single digit temps it will be in the 20’stoday and in the 40’s by the weekend. The good news is that the sun has managed to peep out most days too and that always makes me feel better. A little sunshine does the body good and makes everything look brighter.
I’m thinking Spring and am so grateful for the little things that make my days so sweet.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Hot Buttered Rum Day.
Hot buttered rum is an American innovation. During the colonial period, merchants began importing molasses, which is the basis for rum, from Jamaica. The first rum distillery opened in the 1660s and it wasn’t long before the colonists began mixing the alcohol with spices to create a warm winter refreshment.
A hot buttered rum is a warm alcoholic beverage made with dark rum, butter, sugar, and cloves mixed with hot water.
Crockpot Hot Buttered Rum
8 c. hot water
2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 pinch salt
3 sticks cinnamon
6 whole cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 cups rum
heavy cream - whipped
ground nutmeg - for topping
Put all ingredients, except rum, cream and nutmeg into crockpot. Add 2 quarts hot water. Stir well. Cover pot and cook on LOW for 5 hours. Add rum; stir to blend. Serve from pot in warm mugs with a scoop of whipped cream and a dusting of nutmeg.
Makes 16 servings

ADVICE FOR TODAY
If you want to be creative, stay in part a child, with the creativity and invention that characterizes children before they are deformed by adult society.
Jean Piaget
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Boy, I'll bet that Hot Buttered Rum makes one's house smell SO good! My mother used to make it using ice cream, and kept a big batch in the freezer. Maybe I'll do that for son and family next year ... they're all snowed in today.
