ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Run it Up the Flagpole to See if Anyone Salutes Day which is set aside to allow people to be creative. Use this day to try and test new ideas and concepts.
'Run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes' is an expression. It means to float an idea to see what people think, or if they notice. The term is commonly used in advertising and print media Don't limit the ideas to business applications. In your personal life, try out a new dress or clothing style, perhaps a different haircut. Or, maybe buy a new house flag and run it up the flagpole to see if anyone salutes...or even notices.
There's no better time to try something new than early in the New Year. So, January 2nd is a good day for Run it Up the Flagpole and See if Anyone Salutes Day.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
And now let us believe in a long year that is given to us, new, untouched, full of things that have never been…
Rainer Maria Rilke
We all love to try something new. It’s fun just to try a new recipe and I’m always on the outlook for one of those. I’m going to try and be a bit more creative this year. I’ve been making the same old things for years and there is always room for change.
This week is going to be another very cold one for us with temps rarely rising above the single digits and a few nights will be down below zero. The long range forecast does say there is a bit of hope as next week we’ll rise into the double digits, but still below freezing.
It’s hard for me to really want to do much of anything in this deep freeze let alone be creative, but I’m going to try. There is plenty of leftover roast to do something with. It’s good to eat leftovers just as they are but maybe I can find a new way to use them up.
The pictures today are of my two youngest sons and their families that joined me for New Year's dinner and some games afterward.
I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday!
Quickie Quiche for New Year brunch
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is National Cream Puff Day! Cream puffs are rich desserts that made their debut in the United States in 1880. However, the first cream puff originated in Europe sometime during the 1540's when Catherine de Medici's pastry chef created the baked puffed shells for Catherine’s husband, Henry II of France.
Cream puffs are unusual pastries. Flour is added to a boiled mixture of butter and water, and then cooked at a high temperature until the mixture becomes a smooth ball of dough with a hollow center. After cream puffs are taken out of the oven, they must be cut in half or the pastry will deflate upon cooling.
Easy Cream Puff Cake
1/2 c. butter
1 c. water
1 Tbsp.sugar
1 c. flour
4 eggs
1 pkg. 8 oz. Cream Cheese softened
1 1/2 c. cold milk
2 pkgs.,3.4.oz each, vanilla flavored instant pudding
1 tub, 8 oz. Cool Whip
2 oz. Semi Sweet chocolate
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Bring butter, water and sugar to boil in medium saucepan, stirring occasionally. Add flour, cook and stir 3 minutes or until mixture forms a ball. Spoon into large bowl
Add eggs one at a time, beating with a mixer after each addition until all ingredients are well blended. Spread onto bottom of a 13 by 9 inch baking dish sprayed with cooking spray.
Bake about 35 minutes or until golden brown. Dough will puff up along sides of baking dish. Cool completely.
Meanwhile mix cream cheese and milk in a medium bowl until blended. Add pudding mixes; beat 2 minutes. Refrigerate until ready to use.
Spread pudding minute of cream puff crust just before serving. Top with Cool Whip.
Melt chocolate as directed on package and drizzle over dessert.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Every day is a new beginning. Treat it that way. Stay away from what might have been, and look at what can be.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Good morning! Your kids and grands look like so much fun!
Quiche is something I haven’t made in years! No reason. That would be a good thing to make with some of our ham. It’s a big one and we will be eating on it for days and days.
When we have leftover beef, I usually put the last of it in a small crock pot and add BBQ sauce. Let it cook awhile and we have sandwiches out of it. I don’t like to waste food. It happens but I’m always slightly disappointed in myself when I’ve allowed something to go bad. I could at least throw it in the freezer and save it for later.
Stay in and stay warm! I can’t believe how cold it is up your way!
Tom and I both love quiche, but I've never tried making it. Yours looks wonderful!
Back in my h.s. days we made crème puffs in Home Ec; I'll never forget my parents raving about good they were. Funny, I've never made them since.
Your temps are sobering, indeed. Even in our about-to-be town (Coosada, AL), it was 16 degrees this morning. Yet, I was running the a/c in my car again today.
