ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Good sense about trivialities is better than nonsense about things that matter.
Max Beerbohm
Hopefully, the trivia I present day after day is something that will give you a reason to celebrate each day. Little known holidays and great recipes are a fun way for me to start the day. I’ve been doing this now for so long it’s hard to remember just when I started.
I do believe we’ve been given each new day to enjoy and celebrate. And even though every day not be a good one there is something good to be found in every day.
I can think of no better way to celebrate than to share what I’m thankful for too. Thankfulness make everything better. When you start counting your blessings instead of your woes it can turn your life around.
At this point of the week I’m just trying to hang in there till Sunday when we’ll finally warm up a bit. The bitter cold continues and our schools will be closed once again in an effort to keep the children safe.
This cold snap is certainly taking it’s toll and many have suffered frozen water lines, including me. My shower and bath tub froze up but everything else was working I called our community maintenance department. They take care of anything that goes wrong here. We were warned to leave our cabinet doors open under the sinks and I did but guess it just wasn’t enough in this severe cold.. Thankfully it thawed out before they made it here and all is working just fine again but this is not over yet.
Little by little the house is returning to normal here and I started off with clearing the dining room table. That is what my pictures are of today. For me, this was just the start of getting back to normal, what ever that may be. Having things clean and shiny always make me feel better.
You may think I’m digging for pictures here but, off the top of my head , I couldn’t think of a better way to show you how I start the year off with a clean slate and have a shiny New Year.
Hang in there ! Nothing lasts forever!
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It's National Spaghetti Day. Grab a big bowl, fill it with spaghetti, top it with a generous helping of your favorite sauce, and dig in. And, don't forget the meatballs and parmesan cheese!
Spaghetti is one of over 600 shapes of pasta. It is by far, the most popular shape. Many people think of Italy and Italian cuisine, as the birthplace of spaghetti. In reality pasta, or macaroni, dates back to ancient times.
It was introduced into the United States through the travels of Thomas Jefferson, who brought it back from Naples, Italy in 1789. Italian immigrants also brought it over with them to the U.S., where its popularity quickly spread.
Spaghetti in Italian means thin string or twine.
I’m pretty sure I’ve shared this recipe before but it is a favorite of mine.
One Pot Spaghetti
No need to worry about a separate pan to boil the spaghetti. The noodles cook right in the sauce.
8 oz. ground beef
1 c sliced fresh mushrooms or one 6 oz.canned sliced mushrooms, drained
1/2 c. chopped onion
1 clove minced garlic
1 can chicken or beef broth, 14 oz.
1 3/4 c. water
1 can tomato paste, 6 oz.
1 tsp. dried Italian seasoning
1/4 tsp. black pepper
6 oz. dried spaghetti, broken
1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
In large saucepan cook the ground beef, mushrooms, onion, and garlic until meat is browned and onion tender. Drain.
Stir in the broth, water, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, and pepper. Bring to boiling. Add the broken spaghetti, a little at a time, stirring constantly. Return to boiling, then reduce heat. Boil gently, uncovered for about 20 minutes or until spaghetti is tender and sauce desired consistency, stirring frequently. Serve with Parmesan Cheese. Makes 4 servings.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Courtesies of a small and trivial character are the ones which strike deepest in the grateful and appreciating heart.
Henry Clay
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their

with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Trivial things do matter... more people are killed each year by the bite of mosquitoes than are stepped upon by charging elephants.

What a beautiful shiny table Pam! So happy that your frozen bath pipes were able to thaw out without any problem. If it gets really cold, I let one tap just trickle, and they say that keeps them from freezing. It seems to work. I know it is a bit of a waste however. I love the trivia you share with us. It seems I am always learning something new from you! That is the one thing I love most about blogging, the sharing we are able to enjoy in our lovely blogging community! I love spaghetti! I could eat it til it comes out my ears! Not so easy now that I am missing a few of my back teeth. I need to cut it up with a knife these days, but I still do enjoy it! Your recipe looks very tasty! Stay safe and stay warm! Hope your cold spell dissipates soon! xoxo
My hubby makes spaghetti for himself all the time! I'm going to share this 'combo' method with him as soon as we 'hang up'!
Your shiny tabletop, aka clean slate, is a novel way to showcase the phrase!
