ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Thomas Crapper Day! Thomas Crapper was a plumber in the late 19th century who founded Thomas Crapper & Co. Ltd. in London. Although he did not invent the toilet, he was able to use his skills as a shrewd businessman and salesperson to make it extremely popular.
The flush toilet was invented in 1596 by John Harrington. From the time of its invention up until the start up of Crapper's company, bathroom fixtures were not part of the everyday household. Crapper heavily promoted sanitary plumbing and pioneered the concept of the bathroom fittings showroom, which made toilets and bathroom fixtures a global success.
The manhole covers in Westminster Abbey still have the Crapper Company name on them. They are a common tourist attraction in England. Celebrate Thomas Crapper Day today and take a moment to appreciate all that he did for the promotion of sanitary plumbing!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Every convenience brings its own inconveniences along with it.
Proverb
I think that all of us are thankful for the modern day conveniences we have like plumbing and heating. We often take them for granted until they don’t work and then we know just how much they means to us.
Thankfully all my plumbing is working right now but it was a little touch and go when it was down in the single digits and even below zero for a few days. I had some frozen pipes at that time, but it warmed up and everything is working now. None of the pipes burst and all is good. Hopefully we won’t see any more of that kind of severe weather the rest of the winter.
We’re to be on the warm side, above freezing yet for a couple of days, but the long range forecast says we’re going back into the deep freeze for a few days next week but nothing like it was. I’ve learned that I need to keep my house warmer than I used to, so hopefully there will be no more problems. I used to have the thermostat set on 68 or 70 but they say I need to keep it at a minimum of 72 now.
The pictures today are of my house when I first moved in. You’ll note the counters are quite bare, but they aren’t anymore. I’m thankful for all the conveniences I have that make my life cozy and comfortable.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Chocolate Cake Day which is a a chocolate lovers delight, and a day to eat cake. This a day to bake your chocolate cake and eat it, too!
On this day, a white or yellow cake will not do. Nor, will part chocolate, part white suffice. It must be chocolate, all chocolate. You can make milk chocolate, dark chocolate, fudge, or any other type of chocolate cake.
Today’s recipe claims to be the best Chocolate Cake ever. I’ve not made it so I cannot say but am saving this recipe to try out soon.
Yield: 3 9-inch rounds
The Most Amazing Chocolate Cake
butter and flour for coating and dusting the cake pan
3 cups flour
3 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
4 large eggs
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1 1/2 cups warm water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla
Chocolate Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
3 teaspoons vanilla
7 to 8 cups powdered sugar
about 1/4 cup milk, as needed
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter three 9 inch cake pans. Dust with flour and tap out the excess.
Mix together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a stand mixer using a low speed until combined. Add eggs, buttermilk, warm water, oil, and vanilla. Beat on a medium speed until smooth. This should take just a couple of minutes.
Divide batter among the three pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the cake meets the toothpick test .
Cool on wire racks for 15 minutes and then turn out the cakes onto the racks and allow to cool completely. Frost with your favorite frosting and enjoy!
Chocolate Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting
In a large bowl, beat together butter and cream cheese until fluffy. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer for best results. Add in cocoa powder and vanilla extract. Beat until combined. Beat in powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time. Add milk as necessary to make a spreadable consistency. The frosting should be very thick.

ADVICE FOR TODAY
Happiness consists more in small conveniences of pleasures that occur every day, than in great pieces of good fortune that happen but seldom to a man in the course of his life.
Benjamin Franklin
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

I never heard it called that ("Crapper"), but oh man how I appreciate mine! :)
Because Alabama's still experiencing 30-degree mornings, I asked son to check the thermostat on our new place. He has it set at 63, which I suppose is safe; nothing like y'all are experiencing! Crazy to think tomorrow's supposed to be 81 and Monday 83. What is Mother Nature thinking?!
I do love plumbing! Grateful for my tiny camper bathroom and that it’s hooked up to the septic tank.
We are going home on Monday and Louis Dean is looking forward to soaking in a big bathtub of HOT water for an hour or more! It’s the little things that are really so wonderful!
