ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is New Years Day which is a time to relax and enjoy the start of a bright and promising new year… a new beginning. It is a time to be with family. So, enjoy everything about New Year's… it only comes once a year.
To many Americans, the ball dropping at Times Square in New York City signaled the start of the new year in this country. The ball was first dropped in 1908.
HAPPY NEW YEAR !

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
A new year can begin only
because the old year ends.
Madeleine L'Engle
I hope you all had a great New Years Eve celebration and are ready to start off this brand New Year with joy and anticipation. I didn’t manage to see Midnight come as I was fast asleep before that magic hour. I just can’t manage to stay awake that long anymore, but was awaken with text messages from my family for a Happy New Year shortly afterward.
I’ll be getting ready to have some of my family for dinner this evening. Not many usually come, mostly just the ones that live locally. But I’ll be serving our traditional pork and sauerkraut to those that are able to come.
Traditions vary in what you should eat for New Years Day. I know some that have chicken soup and some have black eyed peas but for my family, it’s always been pork and sauerkraut.
I managed to get a new roasting pan especially for the occasion and that is what is pictured above. It’s said that this is the best type of roaster to use as when the lid is put on it naturally bastes the roast in it’s own juices. I’ve had one before and I love them, but a new one was needed so I’m sure this will do an excellent job.
Our bitter cold temps has been keeping me inside for the most part. Except for some time spent clearing away snow, I’ve been inside keeping warm. I managed to get my celebration banners up in the windows and I’m ready to celebrate a brand new year !
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new year! Happy New Year!
God has been there from the beginning of all time
and is with you in each new beginning.
May the God who makes things new bless you and keep you.
May Jesus’ love shine upon you and through you.
May the Holy Spirit bring you peace.
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Apple Gifting Day.
This unusual food holiday is a nice way to start the new year. The apple symbolizes many things such as love, knowledge, bounty, good heath, beauty, and rebirth. One possible meaning behind giving an apple is to wish the recipient good health and a fruitful year.
One of my New Year’s side dishes will be applesauce. My mom always said you should have it with pork. So that is what I’ve always done. This year I’m thinking of making baked apples with cinnamon instead. I’ll have the oven on anyway so might as well put it to good use.
Baked Apples with Cinnamon
1 tsp. butter
2 tbsp. brown sugar
3 tsp. vanilla sugar
3 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
6 large apples, peeled cored and sliced
3 1/2 tbsp. water
Preheat ove to 350 degrees. Grease a large baking dish with the butter.
Mix brown sugar, vanilla sugar, cinnamon and nut meg in small bow. Layer 1/3 of apples in prepared baking dis, spring with 1/3 sugar mixture. Repeat layers twice more.
Bake in preheat oven for 3 minutes. Pour water over apples and continue baking until tender, about 15 minutes more.

Love that new roaster! If that is your stove, guess what....I have the same exact one! We have such good taste. xx
Happy New Year, wish I could have some of your good cooking today!
I love your New Year's banner! Harley and I watched the ball drop and then shared a glass of wine to celebrate the coming year. (hers was non-alcoholic) We used to always eat black eyed peas for New Years but I have made turkey noodle soup with our leftover Christmas turkey so that is on the menu today. Enjoy your time with what family you have close! And Happy New Year!!!
The pork and sauerkraut sounds delish! I usually put on a pot of black-eyed peas, but totally forgot it this year. Then, we were going to make a big bowl of popcorn (with garlic salt) and watch the ball drop ... but he wanted to make chicken Florentine instead. Good thing I have to go back to work tomorrow, or I'll need to get new, larger slacks.
Happy New Year again!
