Today is National Polka Dot Day and who better to celebrate the occasion with than the polka dot queen herself, Minnie Mouse!  Minnie is not only Mickey Mouse’s beloved counterpart, but is a sassy and sweet pop culture icon who popularized the polka dot pattern.

Polka Dots are absolutely timeless and a sound choice when it comes to style.  Princess Minnie has been slaying those tiny circles for 90 years. Plus, she's finally receiving her Star on Hollywood Boulevard today, which is quite an accomplishment!

Polka Dots are the perfect accessary!

I don’t have many polka dot inspired pictures to share today or of Minnie Mouse for that matter.  But I certainly have watched many Mickey and Minnie cartoons over the years.  It may be that I’ll have to watch one in honor of today.

Here we are at the beginning of another new week.  I don’t know about you, but January seems like a long month.  Maybe it’s the weather that is making it so or the fact that winter seems so long.  It’s nice that we have had some warmer days to melt the snow and ice, but there not much getting outside as it’s still too cold.  

I’ve another week of indoor living, but I’m not complaining, there is still much to do.  Today I’ve got cleaning to do and maybe some laundry too.  House work never ends it seems and even though I’m the only one here, the dust still collects.

WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN

There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!

It’s National Blonde Brownie Day which is a special day set aside to bake and eat Blonde Brownies.  As their name implies traditional brownies are dark brown.  To make blonde brownies, light brown sugar is used in place of dark brown chocolate.

Easy Blonde Brownies

1 pkg. yellow cake mix
1/4 c. butter, softened
2 eggs
1/4 c. water
1/4 c. packed brown sugar
1 12 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. nuts

Grease 9 by 13 inch pan. Combine 1/2 cake mix with water, butter, eggs and sugar. Mix well. Add remaining cake mix and mix well. Add chocolate chips and nuts. Spread in pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes at 375 degrees.
