40 DAYS UNTIL SPRING

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Boy Scout Day which celebrates the birthday of Scouting in America. On February 8, 1910, Chicago publisher William Dickson Boyce filed incorporation papers in the District of Columbia to create the Boy Scouts of America.
Scouting groups across the country celebrate this day. Often a cake will be served at the weekly meeting or on a campout. Scout Sunday, the Sunday nearest the 8th of February, will often be marked with a church service, followed by a pancake breakfast.
Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts offer a tremendously valuable program of life skills and values for millions of boys. It has been popular ever since Lord Baden-Powell founded Boy Scouts in the early 1900s in Great Brittain. The top award of Eagle Scout, is an accomplishment that reaps recognition, rewards, and benefits for a young man throughout his life.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We never fail when we try to do our duty, we always fail when we neglect to do it.
Robert Baden-Powell
When going through all the stuff here at my house I found lots and lots of Scout memorabilia. All of my boys went through scouting as they grew up and really enjoyed it. Now a few of my grandsons are in Scouting and a couple of my sons are Scout leaders too.
One of the big events in Cub Scouts is the Pine Wood Derby. And that is when the picture above was taken this year as our little Lucky Guy participated.
This week continues to be a busy one here as usual, with preparing to move. I’m keeping positive and hoping that in near future the house will be sold and I’ll be moving on.
For the next few days we are to be colder again and even have a chance flurries, but they are saying we’ll rebound on the weekend and temps will once again be near 50. Our weather roller coaster continues.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Molasses Bar Day!
If you’ve never had molasses, then Molasses Bar Day would be the perfect and most apt day to try it! Molasses, or treacle in British English, is essentially a thick sugary syrup made from sugarcane or sugar
beets that contains large amounts of calcium, iron and magnesium.
Beware of one thing: these are seriously addictive!
Chewy Ginger Molasses Bars Recipe
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
pinch of ground cloves
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup dark molasses
1 large egg
1 cup raisins
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Next, butter and flour a cookie sheet and set it aside for later. In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients; that is, the flour, salt, baking powder and spices. In another bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, and then add the egg and molasses, stirring until well combined. Slowly add the dry ingredients, constantly mixing.
Next, stir in the raisins and make a dough. Flour your hands and press the dough over the cookie sheet in an even layer. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes, removing from the oven when a toothpick inserted into the dough comes out clean. Let cool completely before slicing into about 32 pieces.
These bars keep really well, even when they are left uncovered, as they are so moist. One of these bars contains about 105 calories, which isn’t very much, really; still, it is easy to overindulge.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
I believe that God put us in this jolly world to be happy and enjoy life.
Robert Baden-Powell
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4639. For Scouting, a wonderful program
4640. for molasses, good and good for you
4641. for lots to do, I am never bored
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
The most worth while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.
Robert Baden-Powell
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Those pine wood derbies are fun to participate in. Our kids didn't do them through scouts, but through a church program. Fun to see the variety of cars that participated in them :)

My late husband was a lifetime Scout! He received the Beaver award a few years before he died. It is the highest award The Boy Scouts award to adult leaders. So we celebrated lots of Scout holidays in this house. And hate a lot of blue and gold cakes. And made our share of pinewood derby cars!! Loved seeing the picture!
