WELCOME FEBRUARY!
The month of February is American Heart Month, Black History Month, Canned Food Month, Great American Pie Month, National Cherry Month, National Children’s Dental Health Month, National Grapefruit Month and National Weddings Month
Today is National Freedom Day which celebrates freedom from slavery, and recognizes that America is a symbol of freedom. National Freedom Day honors the signing by Abraham Lincoln of a joint House and Senate resolution that later became the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. President Lincoln signed the Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865, although it was not ratified by the states until later
National Freedom Day was established in 1948 when President Harry Truman signed the bill proclaiming February 1st as National Freedom Day to remind us that America stands for, and is a symbol of freedom for all people.
Celebrate this day by reflecting upon your own freedoms that you enjoy by being fortunate enough to be in America. Millions of people in the world are not free.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
In the coldest February, as in every other month in every other year, the best thing to hold on to in this world is each other.
Linda Ellerbee
I have always been proud to live in a country where we are free and all are equal. So today I’m going to be wearing my red white and blue to celebrate.
The snowy weather we’ve been experiencing is supposed to come to an end today and we’ll have a short break with snow returning on Sunday they say. February is often our snowiest month.
I didn’t have to clear any snow away on Monday as DS#5 had a snow day and was able to help with that but Tuesday I got a little work out doing it myself. I’m not a fan of winter and cold weather at all, but there’s not much we can do about it except make the most of what we’re given. On the bright side I got some much needed exercise.
Please remember DS#1 in prayer as he has surgery today.
Keep warm and stay safe everyone !
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
PRAYER REQUEST
A friend has asked for prayers for a friend of hers and for the friend’s son too. She wrote: Please pray for C and her son T. He is in critical condition. They have put him in an induced comma. May the dear Lord comfort this mom and bring healing to her son.
We pray in all things, Thy will be done Lord!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Baked Alaska Day! Baked Alaska is a decadent dessert made with ice cream, sponge cake, and toasted meringue.
I haven’t made this recipe but found one to share in case you might want to make it.
EASY BAKED ALASKA
1 pound cake
1 pt. ice cream, any flavor, frozen hard
4 egg whites
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. sugar
Pinch salt
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Cover cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Place pound cake in center of sheet. Beat egg whites, cream of tartar, sugar and salt until stiff meringue forms. Cut ice cream, container and all, in half vertically. Place each half pint on top of pound cake with larger ends together in middle. Cover cake and ice cream entirely with meringue as evenly as possible, making sure to seal all edges, this prevents ice cream from melting. Bake for 5 minutes or until meringue is lightly browned. Serve immediately either plain or with your favorite ice cream topping. Store leftovers, if any, covered in freezer.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
No longer forward nor behind
I look in hope or fear;
But, grateful, take the good I find,
The best of now and here.
John Greenleaf Whittier
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4621. for a break from the snow
4622. for exercise, it’s good for you
4623. for the land of the free and the home of the brave
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY

I remember my mom making Baked Alaska years go. This recipe does look easy. Saying a prayer for your son with his surgery today; hoping that will be the "fix" that will help him to feel better!
betty
Saying a prayer for you and your son today! Hope everything goes well and this will relieve his symptoms! Your pictures remind me how lucky I am to live where there isn't that much snow. Right now, anyway. Who knows what next week might bring!
I'm embarrassed to admit, I've not heard of National Freedom Day. Oh, the things I take for granted!
'Hope by the time you see this, your son is out of surgery and recovering nicely.
My goodness, there's so much unhappiness is the world; I'm honored to hold C and T in my prayers. I remember when it felt so nice to realize there were total strangers praying for Tom and I.
