32 DAYS UNTIL SPRING
Sunrise: 7:21 am

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Do a Grouch a Favor Day. Do it and make the world a better place.
Everyone has been a grouch at one time or another. Some people are seemingly grouches all of the time. It's in their nature. Others are occasional grouches, influenced by events in their lives like lack of sleep or the weather. A few people are good at disguising their grouchy mood. But, they still need cheering up.
Look around for someone who is in a grouchy mood today. Then, do him or her a favor that will cheer up their day. There's plenty of grouches out there to practice on. Try it on all of the grouches that you see today, and watch the results!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Make two grins grow where there was only a grouch before.
Elbert Hubbard
Sometimes all it takes is a smile or a kind word to make a grouchy person feel better. There are definitely times too, when the grouchy person we need to help is ourselves. I’ve found that when I’m in a bad mood, the best thing I can do is to count my blessings and remember the good things in my life and that quickly turns my frown up side down.
Today I’m going to try and get another box or two packed away here. There are things I don’t use everyday that can easily be boxed up now. There is never a dull moment here at my house.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is Almond Day which celebrates all things almond, and rightly so, given their high vitamin E content, their effectiveness at reducing cholesterol levels and helping with weight loss!
While I do love almonds in chocolate, I found a new recipe to share with you all today.
Easy Almond Squares
1/2 cup butter, melted plus butter for greasing the pan
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon Almond Extract
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
1/3 cup toasted blanched almonds, chopped
Whole almond halves for decoration
One 8 by 8 inch baking pan
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 8 by 8 baking pan with butter. Chop toasted almonds.
In a mixing bowl, whisk melted butter with brown sugar, beaten egg and almond extract
In separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda and pinch of salt. Add dry mixture to wet mixture and mix until smooth. Stir in chopped almonds.
Pour into to prepared pan and smooth the surface. Cut the surface in squares. Place an almond half cut side down, in the middle of each square.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes until tester comes out clean. Cool completely before cutting into squares. Makes 9 squares.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
The Lord loveth a cheerful giver. He also accepteth from a grouch.
Catherine Hall
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4663. for smiles, they always cheer me up
4664. for almonds, good and good for you too
4665. for a partly sunny day
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Wear a smile and have friends; wear a scowl and have wrinkles.
George Eliot
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

Makes me think of Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street. I get grouchy if I get too hungry. Good idea to pack up what you don't need all the time to use. Everything will get done by the time you are ready to move.

Ha! Today, the grouch was me. My mornings are normally so practiced (yes, I'm a bit OCD) that when I came out to the garage and discovered a flat-as-a-pancake tire ... well, my universe tipped a bit on its axis.
'Jumped in hubby's truck, only to discover the gas gauge was hovering near the big "E" .... then a few miles down the road discovered I'd left my cell phone in the Camry. All the while, looking at the clock. Screeched into the driveway and into the garage ... only to discover my cell phone was in my bag all along! I'd just thrown it in the wrong pocket.
Thankfully, DH was pleasant and took care of everything. I owe that fella, big time!
