29 DAYS UNTIL SPRING
Sunrise: 7:15 am

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is President's Day which is a day set aside to honor all of the U.S. Presidents. We often think of two great presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln when we celebrate this holiday, as it falls by design between their birthdays. More and more of us, look at this day as a tribute to each and every person who has ever served in the office of the President of the United States of America. It is a national holiday. While Federal employees, the post office, and banks have the day off, most businesses and industry do not recognize it as a paid holiday.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Leave nothing for tomorrow which can be done today.
Abraham Lincoln
With President’s Day being a Monday holiday, lots of people have a 3 day weekend. When I worked I had to take a vacation day if I wanted off, and that is what I usually did. For years and years now DD and I have taken advantage of the Presidents Day sales at our outlet mall and headed out for a day of shopping.
This year we shopped on Saturday instead and were joined by DDIL#5 and one of my nieces too. The weather here has been beautiful so it was a great day to be out and about and that is what the pictures are of today.
I didn’t find many terrific buys but it was great to be in the company these 3 great gals and we had a lot of fun.
We had a change in plans yesterday as our Little Lucky Guy and his little sister had a touch of the tummy flu and the party was moved to next weekend. Thankfully most every one will still be able to go then.
It looks like I’ll be back to sorting and packing here at my house today. Eventually it will all get done.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It's Cherry Pie Day. Cherry pie is America's second most popular pie, behind only apple pie in popularity. However, in the month of February, it's Number 1.
As a young boy, George Washington made the Cherry tree popular, with his famous quote,
I can not tell a lie, I chopped down the Cherry tree'. We celebrate George Washington's Birthday and President's Day in February. Appropriately, its traditional to bake cherry pies in honor of the occasion.
I prefer homemade pie crust but sometimes you just need something nice and easy for dessert and that is just what the recipe for today is.
NICE `N EASY CHERRY PIE
2 unbaked pie shells
2 cans cherry pie filling
2 tbsp. milk
Cinnamon
Sugar
Empty 2 cans of cherry pie filling in 1 unbaked pie shell.
Roll second pie shell flat and cut into strips. Make a lattice work crust and place over pie filling. Brush top of crust with milk and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 35 to 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
John F. Kennedy
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4675. for all the great Presidents and all they did for our country
4676. for a very relaxing and happy weekend
4677. for a mild February
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
This Presidents Day, let's take a moment to reflect on what it means to be an American.
God bless America!
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

Sorry to hear about your grandchildren being sick; glad the party was able to be postponed. Sounds like you had a nice outing shopping though :) It will come together with packing. It is tedious work though.
betty
Oh, what I'd do for a shopping excursion with good friends! 'Loot' or not, so glad y'all had a wonderful time.
I'm not a fan or fruit pie ... but wanted to share another blogger's neat hack. After the holidays Kathy had raw sugar-cookie dough that was about to expire. Rather than make (more) cookies, she spread it across the bottom and sides of a pie plate and baked it, then filled with pudding. Doesn't that sound good?
