Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Stress Awareness Day. Stress can be a real killer, both in the workplace and in our day to day lives. Stress serves a solid purpose in human biology, but our modern lives have brought about a surplus of causes that haunt us from day to day. When we are faced with a challenge, or a threat to our well being, the body experiences stress. Whether you’re dealing with a job that puts you under tremendous pressure, or face struggles in your life or relationship that leave you in a state of constant worry, stress can be a real killer. Stress Awareness Day was set aside as a time to be aware of the stress in our lives and how it affects us.
Today is your opportunity to start looking after yourself and your life, and break down the individual stressors in your life. Failure to deal with stress in your life effectively can lead to serious health problems, including increased blood pressure, susceptibility to heart disease, and a decline in your immune system. Once you start experiencing these symptoms they can landslide into each other, resulting in growing sickness, and by extension, more stress.
Don’t let stress take one more day from your life, act now and start living a stress free life!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Your body is an amazing creation, capable of performing great wonders, but you can destroy that miraculous machine's potential with an overdose of stress.
Harry J. Johnson
Years ago I learned that stress can really make one sick. Since then I’ve done my best to make sure that never happens again. For my own good and the good of my family and friends, I’ve tried to live a stress free life.
That isn’t always an easy thing to do, but one thing we can all do with out very little effort is to stop and take some deep breaths. That relieves a lot of stress.
For years I’d mentally take a little trip to the beach in my head to relieve the stress of long work day and these days I like to go out on the porch and sit and rock away the blues. We can all find time for just a few moments in our day to take the stress away.
Today is also the Christian holiday of All Soul's Day which pays respect and remembers the souls of all friends and loved ones who have died and gone to heaven. We’ll always remember and never forget them as they remain close in our hearts.
Surprisingly we have been blessed with a couple more days to enjoy some 70 degree weather. This is very unusual for November but I’ll take it and enjoy it. I took some time to store away the cushions on the porch furniture and the flower pots on the patio too. Colder days are coming.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It's Deviled Egg Day
There are many ways to prepare eggs, but one of the most delicious is to make them into deviled eggs. If you haven’t tried this method before, the perfect day to start is Deviled Egg Day.
Start with a peeled hard boiled egg, and slice it in half. Scoop out the yolk and mash it with mayonnaise and mustard. These are the two most standard ingredients for deviled eggs, but you can be as adventurous as you like. Many people add various seasonings as well, especially hot spices like cayenne or chipotle. You can add anything you like to the mix, and when you’re finished fill the eggs halves back up.
When you eat deviled eggs, you are carrying on a culinary tradition that started with the Ancient Romans. The word ‘deviled’ wasn’t used until the eighteenth century though, when it came to signify something spicy or zesty. Enjoy!
Deviled Egg and Ham Salad
This zippy egg salad has all of the flavor and none of the fuss of deviled eggs.
1 c. cubed ham
1/2 c. finely chopped green pepper
1/4 c. finely chopped green onion
1/3 c. mayonnaise
1/4 tsp. ground red pepper
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. prepared mustard
6 hard boiled eggs
4 large lettuce leaves
4 medium tomatoes, each cut into 8 wedges
In medium bowl, combine ham, green pepper, onion, mayonnaise, red pepper, vinegar and mustard. Mix until well blended. Set aside. Separate hard cooked egg yolk from whites. Place yolks in small bowl. Mash and stir into ham mixture. Chop egg whites and stir into ham mixture. Let stand 10 minutes to blend flavors. Line 4 plates with lettuce. Arrange tomatoes in fan shape around edge of lettuce. Spoon salad mixture onto lettuce. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Stress definitely is not good for our bodies. You are right in saying taking deep breaths can help. Listening to praise music also helps me too. Good to see a few warmer days for you. It is finally cooling down here. 62 degrees this morning with a high in the mid 80s.

It is easier said than done to let go of stress. I work at it!! And it is hard work. We are enjoying those final days of warm weather here too. It is predicted for the rest of this week and part of next. Crazy for this time of year. My family loved deviled eggs. I usually only make them on holidays. And they disappear as fast as I put them on the plate.
Stress is a killer for sure Pam! I am a pretty laid back person, but even I can get stressed at times and its no fun! Prayer, solitude, mindfulness, all help. Deviled Eggs are one of my favourite things! Have a lovely Thursday! xoxo
