33 DAYS UNTIL WINTER

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Use Less Stuff Day. It seems like every day that passes results in us accumulating more and more useless things in
our lives. The newest tech toys, the newest kitchen gadgets, the newest whatevers, all got to be in our hands and there for us to use. Worse, we tend to use a lot of disposable containers and paper towels and just.. well.. stuff. All of this adds up on the environment and the world we live in, and Use Less Stuff Day encourages us to take a critical look at these behaviors and do what we can to cut back.
That’s what Use Less Stuff Day is all about!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Simplicity is making the journey of this life with just baggage enough.
Charles Dudley Warner
I’m guilty. I have way too much stuff. Over my lifetime I’ve accumulated a whole lot that is now no longer necessary. When you consider and the trash I’ve put out and the bags and bags of donations I’ve made lately, you know I had a house full of stuff. Keeping it simple is my aim for the future.
If it’s not beautiful or useful, it’s no longer going to be needed here. I’ve no use for 3 sets of dishes or glassware and more. I’ve really been clearing out. I have a cupboard full of cookbooks too and they are no longer needed either. I can go on the internet and find any recipe I want. All this stuff is just taking up space. And I won’t have much room for it in the future.
Keeping it simple seems to be a much happier way to live. From now on I’ll be much more selective when I buy something new and consider whether or not I really need it.
Today I’m going to betaking another look around here and see what else I can simplify.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Homemade Bread Day !
Sliced bread is undoubtedly a good thing as it saves time, and the effort of kneading. But it’s a real shame that so few of us get to taste the yeasty deliciousness that is home made bread.
Easy Homemade French Bread
2 1/2 cups very warm water
2 tablespoons dry active yeast
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon oil, either vegetable oil or olive oil work great
6 cups all purpose flour
1 tablespoon butter
In a large bowl, mix together water, yeast, and sugar until the yeast is completely dissolved. Add in salt, oil, and flour. Stir with a large wooden spoon or mixer until it becomes too difficult, then knead for two minutes on a floured surface.
Spray a large bowl with non stick cooking spray and place dough in the bowl. Cover with a dish towel and let it raise until it doubles in size.
Dump dough out onto a floured surface. Cut in half and shape into a smooth, worm like shape If you want to get fancy and make your bread look the way that it does in the bakery, use a sharp knife and slice about 1/3 of the way down into the bread, opening up little cracks about 2 inches apart. The cracks will separate more as they rise and bake.
Place dough loaves on a greased cookie sheet and let rise again until doubled, about 25 to 30 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped. Remove bread from oven and rub butter on top.
Makes two loaves of french bread.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Less is more.
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Unnecessary possessions are unnecessary burdens. If you have them, you have to take care of them! There is great freedom in simplicity of living. It is those who have enough but not too much who are the happiest.
Peace Pilgrim
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

I love bread, yum on homemade bread too! We have minimal stuff these days. Hubby still holds on to more thsn I would, but if I had to pack up all that was mine like clothes and other personal belongings all would fit in probably less than 5 boxes. Its a content feeling to get to that in one's life that one can live with less and be satisfied.

I just decided the same thing yesterday about cookbooks! Mine are going on the donate/sell pile. The Internet is wonderful for recipes. I print it out and then throw it away after I have cooked. Printer ink and paper isn't that expensive that I need to keep it until the next time I fix it!
I bought some yeast and hope to be baking some bread soon. I don't cook all that much just for us two so I buy as needed. Thanks for posting all these good recipes. I need to be cleaning out stuff I don’t ever use and get them to the Christion center like you I have a cabinet full of dishes. I know I will be having a house full of company next week. In case I don't get the chance to post before Thanksgiving I hope you have a great day. Take care. Jean
