45 DAYS UNTIL WINTER

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today, the first Saturday of November, is Sadie Hawkins Day which is an American Folk event inspired by the comic strip, Li’l Abner, this uniquely American holiday encourages women to take charge of their lives and to ask men out on a date.
The comic strip became so popular that towns and colleges around the country started declaring their own Sadie Hawkins Day and organizing Sadie Hawkins Dances, where women could break rules of society and ask men out. For girls to take the initiative to ask a boy out for a date was something that was unheard of in 1937.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
You got to sing like you don't need the money; Love like you'll never get hurt; You got to dance like nobody's watchin'; It's gotta come from the heart if you want it to work.
Susanna Clark
I used to love to dance, but now I don’t dance much at all. It is a great way to let loose and get some exercise in the bargain. Dancing has a lot of benefits besides having fun. Dancing improves condition of your heart and lungs and increases muscular strength, endurance and motor fitness.
Dancing improves muscle tone and strength and makes for
stronger bones and reduced risk of osteoporosis.
Studies show that dancing can help you lose weight, stay flexible, reduce stress, and improve your balance too.
I know that I’m no where near as physically fit as I should be and fail to do half the exercise I should. Going up and down the stairs is about the only exercise I get unless you want to count vacuuming the rugs. I guess I should turn on the music more and dance. I’m living proof of the fact that if you don’t use it, you loose it.
It’s looking like a quiet weekend here at my house. I may get out for some groceries today and then there will be church tomorrow. Other than that it’s the same old same old here. But I have discovered that ordinary days are often the best ones!
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
FALL BACK !
Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed tonight. Daylight Savings Time ends tomorrow!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is National Donut Day!
It’s no secret that I love donuts and I most always have some on hand. But as chance would have it, I’m all out of them today. These days I buy mine at the store, but I found this recipe to share for a quick and easy way to make your own.
Easy Glazed Donut Holes
FOR THE GLAZE
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
3 1/2 tablespoons whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
FOR THE DOUGHNUT HOLES
5 cups vegetable oil, for frying
1 cup milk
1 large egg
2 cups flour
2 Tablespoons sugar
4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
for the glaze:
Sift the confectioners' sugar into a medium bowl. Slowly stir in 3 tablespoons of milk and the vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth. If the glaze isn't thin enough, stir in 1 additional tablespoon of milk. Cover the glaze with plastic wrap and set it aside while you make the doughnut holes.
for the doughnut holes:
Add the vegetable oil to a large, heavy bottomed pot. Heat the oil over medium heat to 350ºF. Line a baking sheet with paper towels.
In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and the egg.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir the milk egg mixture into the dry ingredients, then stir in the melted butter, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Once the oil has reached 350 degrees, use a small ice cream scoop to drop about 1 tablespoon scoops of dough into the oil, careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the doughnut holes, flipping them in the oil, for about 2 minutes or until they're golden brown. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the doughnut holes to the paper towel lined baking sheet.
Allow the doughnut holes to cool slightly. Place a cooling rack atop a baking sheet, then one by one, dip the doughnut holes into the glaze and transfer them to the rack to allow the excess glaze to drip off. Serve immediately.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Whatever we are waiting for -- peace of mind, contentment, grace, the inner awareness of simple abundance -- it will surely come to us, but only when we are ready to receive it with an open and grateful heart.
Sarah Ban Breathnach
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
Alan Watts
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

I know I need to get more exercise than I do. Maybe I will have to do some dancing today. I do like quiet days myself. These days are rare now, but enjoyable when they come.

My favorite days are the quiet ones! We used to go dancing quite a bit here! I was much younger and skinnier then!!! Love National donut day! Happy weekend!
Dance?! Heck, I suspect I was inspiration for the term, 'klutz'!
In all seriousness, you're right about being active. Unfortunately, our lifestyle has gradually become sedentary, and we're paying the price. I hope to turn that around in the coming cooler weather ... a little at a time and pray it becomes a habit.
