THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
Bil Keane
This DIL’s birthday is another one of my long distance celebrations. As usual a card went off in the mail filled with birthday wishes and love. I will get to see her later on this month though and I’m so looking forward to that. Most of the pictures I have of her this year were taken along with the other members of my out of state family. DS#2 and #4 live close enough that they often get together.
I’ve been enjoying the super moon. I’ve been able to see it rising in the east at night and see it setting in west. For a few mornings now, it’s what I see out my kitchen window when I get up in the morning. It is bright and beautiful.
The weather here has slowly been getting colder out but we’ve had mostly sunny weather to start off this week. For the first time this year Snow is in our long range forecast for the weekend. It looks like Friday will be in the sixties and then the bottom drops out. We will be lucky to see 40 degrees for a high. BrrrChill!
Meanwhile we have a few more days of pleasant weather. We just have to appreciate it while we have it.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Fast Food Day!
Americans are always fast moving, always in a rush. As a result of our fast moving lifestyle, we need to eat quickly, and are usually unwilling or unable to wait long for our food to be prepared. As a result, fast food restaurants, came into existence. They have been a part of the American restaurant scene since the early 1950's.
Fried Chicken, Pizza, Hot Dogs, Chips, Onion Rings, Hamburgers, oh my! Fast Food is both boon and bane to the busy people of the world, and we all have our favorites.
There are not many occasions where I do buy fast food, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t make my own at home. Here is one of my favorite fast food recipes.
Bacon Cheeseburgers
Serves 6
3 pounds 80/20 ground beef
1/3 cup heavy cream
6 to 8 dashes hot sauce, such as Tabasco
4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
6 kaiser rolls
Softened butter, for spreading, plus 2 tablespoons
6 slices Cheddar
Place the beef into a medium mixing bowl. Add the cream, hot sauce, Worcestershire, salt and pepper. Mix the meat well. Set aside.
Next, slice the rolls in half and spread each half with some softened butter. Place the rolls face down on a skillet over medium heat. Lightly grill the rolls so they're nice and golden. Let the rolls cool on a plate until you need them.
Heat a skillet to medium high heat and add the butter. Form the beef mixture into 6 patties and place in the skillet. Allow each to cook about 4 minutes on the first side, flip them and place a slice of Cheddar on to melt.
When the patties are done in the middle, place them on the base of the halved buns. Top each with 2 pieces of the bacon and top with the other half of the rolls.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes of which all men have some.
Charles Dickens
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4414. for DDIL#2, today is her birthday
4415. for the beauty of nature all around us
4416. for fast food, good when you need it
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
One day at a time--this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.
Ida Scott Taylor
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

Happy birthday to DDIL2! Brrr with your upcoming temperature, but it is that time of year for it. The super moon has been fun to see.
Betty
Happy Birthday to your dear one. I too have watched the moon this week but didn't know it had a special name. We are doing the low-carb eating so your recipe can be used but minus those delicious buns. I will use the heavy cream next time, never thought about doing that in a burger. We eat bun-less these days mostly. I'll be raking today before the weather changes!
