46 DAYS UNTIL WINTER

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Common Sense Day which encourages us to make use of applied sound judgment. The date coincides with the birth date of actor Will Rogers who was thought to have coined the phrase, 'common sense is not that common'.
The dictionary defines common sense as 'the ability to think and behave in a reasonable way and to make good decisions'. Common sense should be used by everyone every day in all aspects of life including finances, career, relationships, health, and politics.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Everybody gets so much information all day long that they lose their common sense.
Gertrude Stein
It seems to me that common sense isn’t used much at all these days. Rather than trying to solve problems based on our own thinking, many are swayed by popular opinion and not their own thinking. With the answers to most anything at our fingertips on the internet, we tend to let others do our thinking.
We can have lots of knowledge but without common sense we won’t know the right way to apply that knowledge. Common sense tells us that you don't put your hand on the burning hot stove. Common sense tells us not to walk out into the street when a car is coming. We all use our phones when driving, but common sense tells us distractions while driving is dangerous, so why do we still use our phones while driving?
It is common sense that tells us when to follow rules, when to ignore them and when to challenge them.
The pictures today are of some of the grandchildren having Halloween fun this year !
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Candy Day !
It seems very appropriate to celebrate this food holiday today as we all have our fill of Halloween candy right now. I know I have some leftover candy here at my house. Today’s recipe is one that might just help to use some of it up.
Candy Filled Cookies
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup chopped candy bars
1 cup chopped candy coated chocolate pieces
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Combine flour, salt and baking soda together in a mixing bowl. Set aside.
Combine butter and both sugars in a mixing bowl. Beat together until well combined. Mix in egg, egg yolk and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix just until combined. Stir all of the candy into the cookie dough until just combined.
Drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto prepared pans, spaced two inches apart. Bake for 11 to 14 minutes. The edges of the cookies should be golden brown, but the centers should look soft and puffy.
Cool cookies completely on baking sheet, or until you just can't wait any longer.

Looks like everyone had a lot of fun on Halloween. It is good to have common sense. In most cases it keeps us safe and out of trouble.
Betty
I think you are right with your views on common sense. Doesn't seem to be much of it going around anymore. Sad!! I loved all the Halloween pictures! Happy Friday!!
