Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Mickey Mouse Day! This holiday celebrates the birthday of everyone's favorite animated mouse. He's also one of the most famous, and is the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This lovable character's big screen debut was in Steamboat Willie on November 18th, 1928.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
When people laugh at Mickey Mouse, it's because he's so human; and that is the secret of his popularity.
Walt Disney
Thanks to my grandchildren, I have come to love and appreciate Mickey Mouse. Ever since I retired and have had more time to spend with them and I probably have watched more Micky Mouse cartoons than at any other point in my life.
These are just a few of the lessons we can learn from this illustrious mouse.
Look on the bright side of things
Mickey always has an upbeat attitude about life and its situations. People are quick to focus on the negative and how things are going wrong, but Mickey tends to focus on the positive. This is an essential lesson for making life a lot more productive.
Smile
Mickey’s bright smile brings happiness to all his friends. Unlike Donald Duck, who seems to have a frown on his face as often as a smile, Mickey tends to live from a place of happiness that shows on his face.
Be proactive
When Mickey is confronted with a problem or challenge, he comes up with a solution. In his clubhouse, he has tools that help him deal with the predicaments that arise. Being proactive is a valuable trait to learn early on so that we will learn how to be solution oriented.
Be helpful
All of Mickey’s friends can depend on him to help them through whatever crisis they find themselves in. Oftentimes, Mickey is the first to step up to the plate with a helping hand.
Patience is a virtue
In many of the short films starring Mickey Mouse, his patience is tried by his friends. He gets annoyed, but he is pretty slow to get angry. Learning how to be patient in an impatient world is crucial for goal setting and planning.
Be polite
Rudeness seems to be running rampant these days. Many cartoons have put good manners on the back burner as well, but Mickey is still a gentleman. He is still always thoughtful and polite. It’s not too much to ask to say please and Thank you or show common courtesy. We can learn a lot about being polite from Mickey.
Today I won’t be watching cartoons, but still it’s going to be a great day to look on the Bright Side !
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Apple Cider Day!
The leaves are falling and chilly weather is here. It’s time to warm up with a yummy drink in celebration of National Apple Cider Day. And the best part is your home will smell AMAZING while you make this homemade apple cider recipe!
Homemade Apple Cider
12 cups Apple Juice
1 tablespoon cinnamon, ground or grated
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
15 cloves (whole)
6 to 8 cinnamon sticks, for garnish
Pour juice into a large pot. Stir in cinnamon, honey, vanilla extract and cloves. Heat on low for 30 minutes or more, depending on how sweet you like your cider. The longer you warm, the sweeter the cider becomes. Pour cider through strainer to remove cloves. Serve hot or cold, garnishing each cup with a cinnamon stick.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever.
Walt Disney
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4420. for Mickey Mouse, a great cartoon for any age
4421. for Apple Cider, delicious warm or cold
4422. for dreams that come true
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

So true on the lessons Mickey can teach us and who indeed can resist his smile. He certainly is a favorite of the wee one here.

Oh, I do love Micky Mouse Pam! He was one of my favourite characters from my childhood. I wish they would show the old cartoons on the telly instead of these new computer animated ones. I don't like them as much. Your Apple Cider recipe looks fabulous. I am book marking it for the holidays! Have a fabulous weekend! God bless you! xoxo
Mickey is a good teacher. One of my favorite memories will always be the year we took Darian and Harley to Disney World. I am so glad they have this memory of their beloved Papa!!
Did you see the movie about Walt Disney and the creator of Mary Poppins? It was called "Saving Mr. Banks", I think it was. Anyway, I thought it was a wonderful movie! Watch it if you get the chance! Have a great weekend! xx
