WELCOME OCTOBER !
OCTOBER is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, American Cheese Month, American Pharmacist Month, Apple Jack Month, Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Children’s Magazine Month, Clergy Appreciation Month, Computer Learning Month, Cookie Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Eat Country Ham Month, Halloween Safety Month, International Drum Month, Lupus Awareness Month, National Chili Month, National Diabetes Month, National Pizza Month, National Vegetarian Month, National Popcorn Popping Month, Sausage Month, and Seafood Month
Today is International Day of Older Persons. On December 14, 1990 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1st as the International Day of Older Persons. The holiday was observed for the first time on October 1, 1991.
The holiday is celebrated by raising awareness about issues affecting the elderly. It is also a day to appreciate the contributions that older people make to society.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.
Abraham Lincoln
As I’m now an older person, this is one day I’ll be celebrating for sure. People are living longer these days. In 1950 there were 200 million people over 60 years old, by 2000 that number had tripled to nearly 600 million and by 2025 it is estimated that there will be over 1 billion older persons. Yes, the definition of old has been pushed back.
The truth is that I am getting older, but the good news is that I’m not by myself, everyone of us gets a little older every day of our lives. Misery loves company they say.
I learn something new every day of my life and the more I know, the more I find I don’t know much at all. Every day is new and exciting. Remembering too, that there is some good to be found in every day keeps me enjoying life is the slow lane.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternative.
Maurice Chevalier
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3178. for each new day, every one is a gift
3179. for some new things to learn
3180. for the good to be found in each day
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
84 Days Until Christmas
It’s time to to look around online or in some old magazines for some new craft ideas for the holidays. October and November crafts can be many types of fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving projects. Making seasonal crafts are a fun activity for the whole family. I have yet to start on my Christmas crafting. I always try to make a gift for the whole family. If I don’t get started soon, it won’t happen at all. Maybe it’s time for something new.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.
Mark Twain,
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

October has a lot to celebrate! It is true people are living longer these days; it is also good that older people get the benefit of discounts at some places like restaurants, movie theaters, etc. Saw a store at the local mall that has senior days on Mondays with an additional 10% off of purchases. Their seniors start at 50, so I might need to go there some Monday and look around and see what they have :)

I love October. It is one of my top three favorite months.
Getting older....you never hear much good news about it but there are wonderful sides to getting a bit older. Wisdom....for one!
Hope your day is cool and blessed.
