Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
National Nut Day is observed annually on October 22. This day is NOT about the neighbor that lives down the street or the crazy coworker, it is a food holiday that celebrates a healthy and nutritious snack.
Nuts are a highly prized food and energy source and are an important source of nutrients for both humans and wildlife. Many of them are used in cooking, eaten raw, sprouted or roasted as a snack food and pressed for oil that is used in cookery and cosmetics.
The fats found in nuts, for the most part, are unsaturated fats including monounsaturated fats.
Many nuts are good sources of vitamins E and B2. They are also rich in protein, folate fiber and essential minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper and selenium.
Nuts are important to animals, especially those in temperate climates, as they store acorns and other nuts during the autumn months to keep from starving during late autumn, all winter and early spring.
Happy National Nut Day !

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Some family trees have beautiful leaves, and some have just a bunch of nuts. Remember, it is the nuts that make the tree worth shaking.

I may be a little bit nutty, but I do love nuts and there is hardly a day goes by here at my house that I don’t enjoy a handful or two. I love just about any kind, but my favorites have to be walnuts or pecans.
I did my usual google search to find a new recipe to try out this week that involved nuts and this is what I found:
Many nuts, such as almonds and walnuts, can have numerous positive effects on health, according to the Mayo Clinic. When eaten as a part of a nutritious diet, they're known for helping to reduce people's risk of heart disease and preventing cognitive decline.
Pear crumble is a refreshing after dinner snack. If you aren't a fan of pears, the dessert can be made with apples as well. The overall time to make the dessert is around one and a half hours, so make sure you've set aside plenty of time to create the dish.
Topping
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
5 Tbsp. canola oil
Filling
3 1/2 lbs. ripe but firm Anjou pears, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup raisins
2 Tbsp flour
2 Tbsp. lemon juice
2 tsp. minced crystallized ginger
Heat the oven to 350 F and start preparing the topping. Mix walnuts, oats, flour and brown sugar in a bowl before drizzling with oil and stirring. Next, prepare the filling by combining flour, lemon juice, maple syrup, pears and ginger in a large bowl. Note: You could substitute apples and cinnamon instead of the pears and ginger. Mix well and pour into a baking dish. Sprinkle the pears and other toppings on top of your first mixture and bake for 45-50 minutes until the pears are golden. Let it cool for 10 minutes before eating. As I have some apples that need using up here in my kitchen, I think I’ll make this recipe with apple, not the pears. And in case you are wondering how many apples there are in a pound, I also google that question and found that a pound of whole apples will yield about 3 cups prepared apples.
While the beginning of the week provided us with some lovely days to be thankful for, today is to be cooler and we have a chance of rain. A good day to turn the oven on.
I think everyone goes a little nuts about pumpkins this time of year and that is what today’s pictures are of. Just a few of my grand babes carving pumpkins about this time last year.
I hope you all have a GREAT day ! Happy Thursday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
God gives the nuts, but he does not crack them.

63 Days Until Christmas
Whether it's a great room, a living room, family room or den, this week we're tackling the central family space. We'll toss the clutter, deep clean the room, and organize media, books and music to prepare for the holiday events ahead. Holiday prep this week revolves around Halloween, which will arrive soon.
Remember too that fresh flowers at the holidays are a fragrant and frugal gift. If you'll be giving holiday plants, start amaryllis bulbs now; they'll need eight weeks to be ready.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU !

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

You're blessed when you're content with just who you are—no more, no less. That's the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can't be bought

It is that time of year to start carving pumpkins :) I saw one at the store last night that I told hubby would be a good one to carve (but I didn't get it). I too like a handful of nuts; usually as an afternoon snack :)

Hopefully, I will get hubby to carve a pumpkin just days before Halloween....messy job. Ha.
