Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Brandied Fruit Day. Brandied fruit is a delicious addition to any desert or breakfast spread. It is simple to make, all you need is a nice Brandy, sugar, a screw top glass jar and, of course, fruit. This day provides a great excuse to indulge yourself with a delicious, homemade treat. A great serving suggestion is to drizzle a tablespoon of the mix over vanilla ice cream.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Nuttier than a fruitcake…I love the stuff!
When I think of brandied fruit I’m reminded of fruit cake. It’s a delicious cake that is usually served at Christmas time. I think it used to be more popular than it is now and at one time there were a lot of jokes going around about them too. We always had them when I was growing up and I, for one, always enjoyed this annual treat. Slow and easy is now a way of life for me and I found an easy fruitcake recipe to share with you all today.
Fruit cake is an old fashioned tradition but one worth keeping in my books.
QUICK AND EASY FRUIT CAKE
1 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
2 c. fruit cocktail, with juice
Mix ingredients in order, just mix well and pour into greased pan. Sprinkle with 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
It looks like it’s going to be pretty uneventful week here at my house. These October days are speeding by. Other than a lunch with friends on Friday, I’ll probably be here at home more than not. I do love ordinary days !
I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Families are a lot like fruitcakes…some are a little nutty.
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3235. for fruitcake, an old tradition worth keeping
3236. for fruit of all kinds, always good and good for you too
3237. for DS#5 who fixed the railing on the steps, making them safe once again
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
65 Days Until Christmas
Just in time for Halloween, here’s a recipe for Witches Brew
To make Witches Brew in a Cauldron, you'll need:
Individual packets of spiced cider mix
Gummy brand candy worms
Black salsa bowls or cups resembling cauldrons
Grab a cauldron or a cup!
Add mix and water, stir it up.
Garnish with a worm or two and you get a warming cup of Witches' Brew!
Using plastic bags you can place a packet of Cider mix and some gummy worms inside for a Halloween treat for your friends. Just label it Witches Brew!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY

That did look like an easy fruitcake recipe; I hadn't thought of putting fruit cocktail into it. When we were growing up, my mom worked for a couple cleaning their house. Every Christmas they always gave my mom (along with other gifts) a fruitcake. It was the most moist fruitcake I ever had. It was definitely a treat at our house :)
I too like ordinary days, those with the regular routine are great ones here :)
betty
October is speeding by here, too... too fast!
