42 DAYS UNTIL FALL
Sunrise: 6:34 am
Sunset: 8:31 pm
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
On this date in 1877 Thomas Edison invented the original cylinder phonograph quite by accident. While trying to record telegraph messages, Edison experimented by moving paraffin coated paper tape at high speed through a receiving instrument. A needle embossed the tape with dots and dashes of the incoming message. On one trial run, the tape sped through and made a sound similar to human speech. He designed a cylinder covered in tinfoil, with a crank that turned the needle around the cylinder. To operate, he turned the crank while speaking, then moved the needle over the cylinder to play back the recording.
Edison recited Mary Had A Little Lamb and his voice was almost perfectly reproduced. The phonograph became his proudest invention.
If we did all the things we were capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.
Thomas A. Edison
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work.
Thomas Edison
The birthplace of Thomas Edison is in Milan, Ohio and that is not so very far from where I live. I have visited there but it was many many years ago. Maybe it's time I went back.
Milan is also known for their Melon Festival that is held every year. I haven't been to it but I have to say that I had the opportunity to have some fresh melon recently and it is very tasty right now.
We took a little side trip coming home last week and got to see the home of another famous Ohioan, 19th President of the United States, Rutherford B. Hayes. That is his home pictured above. It is called Spiegel Grove and is located in Fremont, Ohio. It was so named for the large puddles of rainwater that collect beneath the towering trees following a storm. Spiegel is the German word for mirror which is an accurate description for these nature made reflecting pools. The picture below is of the museum and library building that is situated next to his Home
There is a lot to see right here in Ohio besides corn and soybeans, but I've go to say that after a few days on the by ways, Ohio does have a lot of corn and soybeans.
I hope you all have a great start to the new week. Happy Monday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
It’s when you count blessings — you see Who can be counted on
I am trying to count at least 3 things I'm thankful for each day and then in 1 year's time I'll have counted 1000 gifts. I’ll be sharing them and giving thanks to God for these gifts each day.
848. for inventors and their inventions
849. for new opportunities every day
850. for failures that teach us lessons
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU !
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
Thomas Edison
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma
