ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
JANUARY 17th, 2011
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's MONDAY!
The third Monday in January is Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Born on January 15, 1929, Martin Luther King Jr. grew to become one of the greatest Social Activists the world has ever known. At 35, he became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace prize. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968 while making a speech from the balcony of his hotel room in Memphis, Tennessee.
His Birthday became a National Holiday by an act of Congress in 1983. Many consider it a day to serve your community.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed - we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.
Martin Luther King Jr.
THINKING
It is wonderful how much time good people spend fighting the devil. If they would only expend the same amount of energy loving their fellow men, the devil would die in his own tracks of ennui
Helen Keller
Today: Do a good deed for someone
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
January 17th - 23rd is Fresh Squeezed Juice Week
Orange juice, lemonade, and grapefruit juice all taste better fresh squeezed. And fresh lime juice is a key component of many cocktails and desserts. All are rich in vitamin C to help you ward off colds and flus at this time of year. That's why this week is National Fresh Squeezed Juice Week. So slice, squeeze, and enjoy!
Everybody knows how to make lemonade, right? Squeeze some lemons, add sugar and water. But how to make lemonade so that it tastes right every time? Here's a surefire method.
Remember the starting proportions - 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water, 1 cup of lemon juice.
Some make a simple syrup by heating this as it helps to dissolve the sugar and then they add 3 or more cups cold water and ice to it
This ratio makes a pretty sweet lemonade. Reduce the amount of sugar if you want your lemonade less sweet or if you are using Meyer lemons which are naturally sweeter than standard lemons
At my house we make a pitcher of lemonade by using the juice from two lemons, 1 cup of sugar and then add water plus ice. It's not as overpowering as the ratio above and makes a refreshing drink. Proportions do depend on the size of your pitcher.
PRAYERS
Lord help me live from day to day,
In such a humble sort of way,
To give a smile, help lift a load,
For those I meet along life's road,
And when I come to my journey's end,
My life I have not lived in vain,
If one dear friend can smile and say,
I'm glad I met him on life's way.

Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
I am still going to try to do the memory verses the 1st and 15th of each month this year. This is the one for the 15th:
My brothers and sisters, do not show prejudice if you possess faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.
James 2:1
The one was for January 1st
You crown the year with your good blessings and you leave abundance in your wake
Psalm 65:11
My all time favorite verse of course is Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself also in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
It is always a good way to start the day! Happy Monday!
COUNTING THE DAYS
Today is also Ditch the New Years Resolutions Day
If you haven't accomplished, broken, or given up your New Year's resolutions, today is your chance to get out from under them. Remember you are perfect just the way you are anyway!
62 DAYS UNTIL SPRING!
91 DAYS UNTIL CAMPING SEASON BEGINS
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma
