ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
NOVEMBER 5th, 2010
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's FRIDAY!
On November 5, people in England celebrate a holiday called Guy Fawkes Day. Nearly 400 years ago, Guy Fawkes and other conspirators tried to blow up a British Parliament Building in 1605. After being apprehended they were convicted and beheaded in 1606. November 5th is now celebrated as the anniversary of the plot. Ever since, Guy Fawkes Day has been a time for merrymaking. The best part comes as darkness falls. Then, straw dummies are tossed into huge bonfires. Amid cries of glee, firecrackers pop and the Guy goes up in a blaze of fire.
If you are going to be outside today it might just be a great day to have a bonfire, it's getting colder out...and we are on a SNOW watch here for the very first time this November.
THINKING
Savor the Everydayness of Every Day
These are the moments that make up a life, and the most foolish thing we can do is to rush through them trying to get to a bigger, better, more dramatic moment.
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Today is Donut Day
Instead of a breakfast of granola and fruit, stop by your favorite doughnut shop and indulge in your favorite flavor
Or you can make this Quick and Easy Donut Recipe
A quick and easy snack that kids will love, that isn't too messy and quick. Take a roll of pre-made biscuits and using a soda bottle cap take the middle of each one out, fry them for about 3-5 minutes, coat with light sugar, or powdered sugar or a mixture of cinnamon and powered sugar and serve, hot fresh donuts. You can make donut holes out of the middle pieces.
PRAYERS
Prayer for Autumn Days
Sr. Joyce Rupp, OSM
God of the seasons,
there is a time for everything;
there is a time for dying and a time for rising.
We need courage to enter into
the transformation process.
God of autumn,
the trees are saying goodbye to their green,
letting go of what has been.
We, too, have our moments of surrender,
with all their insecurity and risk.
Help us to let go when we need to do so.
God of fallen leaves
lying in colored patterns on the ground,
our lives have their own patterns.
As we see the patterns of our own growth,
may we learn from them.
God of misty days and harvest moon nights,
there is always the dimension of mystery
and wonder in our lives.
We always need to recognize your power-filled presence.
May we gain strength from this.
God of harvest wagons and fields of ripened grain,
many gifts of growth lie within the season of our surrender.
We must wait for harvest in faith and hope.
Grant us patience when we do not see the blessings.
God of geese going south
for another season, your wisdom enables us
to know what needs to be left behind
and what needs to be carried into the future.
We yearn for insight and vision.
God of flowers
touched with frost and windows wearing white designs,
may your love keep our hearts
from growing cold in the empty seasons.
God of life,
you believe in us, you enrich us,
you entrust us with the freedom to choose life.
For all this, we are grateful.
Amen
Autumn is a time for Prayer
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
Soon Thanksgiving will be here and every year I try to do something special. I saw this idea on line the other day and thought it was a clever idea. I might just use it with my family this year
Cut large 4s from paper and placed one on each person's plate. Just before dinner, have each person write the 4 things they're thankful for on their cutouts, then take turns sharing the lists.
Making new traditions can be fun for everyone
COUNTING THE DAYS
Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect; it just means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections
Unknown
46 DAYS UNTIL WINTER!
50 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
161 DAYS UNTIL CAMPING SEASON BEGINS
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma
