Our March is supposed to be going out like a lamb today with temps in the 50’s and blue skies and sunshine. What a blessing for sure!

Monday went by too slowly and was a very quiet day at work. Both of my bosses did call in on business related things, but I could tell that neither of them was bothered by the fact that I was at work and they were on vacation.

The leaf buds and flower buds are growing but so far nothing but a few little daffodils by the driveway have bloomed here. A few warm days like today though and we should see a difference.

IT’S MONDAY !!

We are off to a very chilly start this morning. They say it will warm up to the mid 40’s today so hopefully I’ll be able to take at least one of my layers off. All this month it’s been that way. April won’t be a whole lot better, but one thing I’ll do is switch from the down filled jacket to a lighter weight spring one.

I also packed my boots away. I don’t want to use them again now til next December. Some places are still having snow and we could do the same, but it won’t require boots (I hope). I have some heavy duty shoes that should keep my feet warm anyway.

This is the week I dread every year. My bosses are down south where it’s sunny and warm and I’m stuck in the office all by myself. Of course #1 boss semi- retired and has a home there and my other boss who is his SIL and his family will be going to visit them on Spring Break. I’ll be doing the office Spring cleaning which it needs badly and my daily work, but it’ll be one long week. My Spring Break will happen but not for awhile. April 17th is my first Friday vacation day and I’ll be spending that weekend at the camper for sure.

An old story


One winter, a long time ago, Jack Frost was very cruel. He made the snow fall thickly upon the ground, and he put ice on the ponds and frost on the window panes.The birds found it very hard to get food and soon they began to get hungry.

Then, one day, the birds were sitting in a ring under a hedge, trying to think what was to be done. After a while a little brown, bird, called Robin, got up to speak."I have an idea," he said. "I will go into the gardens and try to get people to give us a lot more crumbs!"Now Robin had a way all of his own of making friends.He went along to the houses where people lived and in one of the gardens he saw a man clearing away the snow from a path, so he hopped up very close to the man.Most birds are very much afraid of men, but Robin was brave. He had to be, if he was to help the other birds.When the man saw how friendly Robin was, and how hungry he seemed to be, he went into his house and fetched a tray full of crumbs.

Robin was glad, and he fiew off to fetch the other birds, and soon there were crowds of them in the kind man's garden.The best way they could say "Thank you" to the kind man was to eat the crumbs out of his hand.Robin then flew away into other gardens, and wherever he went he made friends.So, while the snow stayed on the ground the birds were able to feed after all.At last Jack Frost sent the snow away, and then the happy birds wanted to thank Robin so they made him a little red waistcoat, which he still wears. That is why he is now called Robin Redbreast

IT’S SUNDAY !!

It’s a rainy morning here. That’s what we expect in the Spring, but tonight into tomorrow morning we may have some snow. It won’t accumulate or last as we are to get up in the 40’s.

I’m going grocery shopping after church today as I need to get some things for next weekend. As I’m on my own at the office this coming week I thought I’d better get the shopping done this weekend. Next Saturday is our family Easter gathering so I need to be prepared. I’ve volunteered the ham and baked beans and if no one else is making them I’ll take the deviled eggs too.

The week ahead looks busy with things at church most every evening if I feel like going. I don’t like going out that many nights in a row so I’ll probably stick to Thursday evening Bible study and leave it at that.

I’m sipping the good coffee and soon will be on my way to take the car in for servicing. I’m not sure what is involved with this one but rotating tires and oil change should be done for sure.

I made an early appointment so I could have it done and over and get home to do some work around here at home today.

March is almost done and over, but it is still trying to make itself known here. I saw in the forecast we have a chance of snow on Sunday night.

The story is told of the most famous elephant in the world -- a huge, beautiful and gentle beast named Bozo. Children extended open palms filled with peanuts for the Indian elephant, who gently plucked them from little hands and seemed to smile as he ate his treats.But one day, for some inexplicable reason, Bozo changed. He almost stampeded the man who cleaned his cage. He charged children at the circus and became incorrigible. His owner knew he would have to destroy the once-gentle giant.

In order to raise money for a new elephant, the circus owner held a cruel exhibition. He sold tickets to witness Bozo's execution and, on the appointed day, his arena was packed. Three men with high-powered rifles rose to take aim at the great beast's head.

Just before the signal was given to shoot, a little, stubby man in a brown hat stepped out of the crowd and said to the elephant's owner, "Sir, this is not necessary. Bozo is not a bad elephant."But he is," the man argued. We must kill him before he kills someone.Sir, give me two minutes alone in his cage, the visitor pleaded, and I'll prove to you that you are wrong. He is not a bad elephant.After a few more moments of discussion (and a written statement absolving the circus of liability if the man should be injured), the keeper finally agreed to allow the man inside Bozo's cage.

The man removed his brown derby and entered the cage of the bellowing and trumpeting beast.Before the elephant could charge, the man began to speak to him. Bozo seemed to immediately quiet down upon hearing the man's words. Nearby spectators could also hear the man, but they could not understand him, for he spoke a foreign language. Soon the great animal began to tremble, whine and throw his head about.

Then the stranger walked up to Bozo and stroked his trunk. The great elephant tenderly wrapped his trunk around the man, lifted him up and carried him around his cage before carefully depositing him back at the door. Everyone applauded.As the cage door closed behind him, the man said to Bozo's keeper, "You see, he is a good elephant. His problem is that he is an Indian elephant and understands one language."

He explained that Bozo was frustrated and confused. He needed someone who could speak his language. "I suggest, sir, that you find someone in London to come in occasionally and talk to the elephant. If you do, you'll have no problems."The man picked up his brown derby and walked away. It was at that time that the circus owner looked carefully at the signature on the paper he held in his hand -- the note absolving the circus of responsibility in the case he was injured inside the elephant's cage. The statement was signed by Rudyard Kipling

Try to notice the good things others do. Try to "toot someone else's horn" whenever possible. You may find that someone will be tooting your horn, too! Thanking others for the good things they do might be a good positive action for Lent!

I remember well the day these two were married. It was sunny and warm and the wedding was held outdoors. I have a picture on my living room wall of the bride and groom and me. We are all smiling!

Thursday didn’t seem as cold as I thought it would be as the wind died down. Today is supposed to warmer again (mid 50’s) and just maybe we’ll see the sunshine!

As usual for us lately the weekend promises showers. I only hope this is not the way it will continue to be. Weekends are supposed to be sunny days for sure.

This evening as well as Sunday evening I’ll be going to church for the special Lenten services they have. Saturday morning I take the ‘Silver Streak’ in for servicing. Otherwise it should be all quiet here…
