HAPPY FINALLY FRIDAY !!
We had a nice Trick or Treat night yesterday and I would guess we had close to 60 children come by. It was daylight when we started which is a first as Daylight Savings Time was extended to November 2nd. this year.
The weekend ahead looks pretty quiet except for going to get my flu shot on Saturday and church on Sunday. I should be able to finally get the entire stack of camper ‘stuff’ put away. I did make a pretty good dent in it this week, but I’m not finished yet.
Happy Halloween Everyone!
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…HALLOWEEN DAY
Holidays and festivals have been celebrated at the end of October for thousands of years. During the 8th century, the Christian church made November 1st, "All Saints' Day". And the night before was called "All Hallows Eve". Over the years, this name became Halloween. The custom of Halloween was brought to America in the 1800's by European immigrants

It was dedicated March 3, 1933 although work continued. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum died in 1941 and his son, Lincoln, continued the project until funds ran out on this day. Since then , no additional carving has been done, nor is any further work (other than maintenance) on the memorial planned

May we grow, Lord. And may we grow where you plant us, producing the fruits you want us to bear. May we realize that however old we may be, we are still growing towards you.Lord, may we have the kind of faith that neither looks back with regret nor forward with fear, but simply with great hope in the profound depths of your goodness. Free us from being scrupulous like those who criticized you that day. May we always strive to learn more about the love of the Father.

HAPPY THURSDAY !!
Tonight will be Trick or Treat night here at my house. I hope it warms up a bit as the sit on the porch is going to be a very cold one if not.
My work is just about done for the week and the boss seems to be persistently staying in the office so I cannot clean. I’m going to work on purging some old files today instead. I usually save that for after the 1st of the New Year, but I’m getting desperate to find something to do. I’m going to go slow with it and make some nice new labels for the files so maybe I can keep busy for the 2 remaining days of this week.
I saw some more of those white things floating in the air yesterday, but from the looks of the radar on the weather most of that went east of us. I went to Kohls on my lunch hour and people were going crazy over winter coats. That will be good for the economy I suppose. I already have mine so I was not one of the crazies. I did get a couple more pairs of wool socks though. They keep my feet so nice and toasty.
Hope you all are keeping warm !

TODAY’S REFLECTION
Certain Pharisees came to Him. 'Go on Your way!' they said. 'Leave this place!'
Luke 13:31
When it comes to spiritual warfare, there is truth in the axiom: "Give him (Satan) an inch and he'll take a mile." Because God protects His servants when He sets them in their place, Satan can't budge us when we occupy the position God has for us. Therefore, Satan tempts us to move, to "leave this place" (Lk 13:31). If he can manipulate us into stepping out of God's position for us, then Satan will soon shove us as far away from God as he can.
Notice that Jesus was specifically tempted to "go" out of position and "leave this place." The Pharisees told Jesus that Herod was trying to kill Him (Lk 13:31). Jesus knew that, in His God-given position, no harm would come to Him until His hour had come. In addition, Satan tempted Jesus to fear death by Herod. It turned out that Jesus had nothing to fear from Herod, for when Herod had a golden opportunity to actually kill Jesus, he didn't kill Him or even harm Him (see Lk 23:7-12).
Notice Jesus' answer to the Pharisees: "I must proceed on course" (Lk 13:33). Jesus didn't budge an inch
Ask God if you are in the place He wants you to be. If not, follow His directions to get into that place very soon. Then "hold your ground" (Eph 6:13). "Stand fast" (Eph 6:14). "Stand firm" (Eph 6:11). "Fear not! Stand your ground, and you will see the victory the Lord will win for you...The Lord Himself will fight for you; you have only to keep still" (Ex 14:13-14

Wednesdays seem to bring a promise of good things to come. Once we get though today we’ll only have 2 more days of work til the weekend. Not everyone works, but I think we all pretty much enjoy the weekends.
Tomorrow evening was supposed to be my Thursday evening Bible Study, but I won’t be able to go. We have Trick or Treat Night then so I’ll be sitting on the porch handing out some candy instead. I had almost forgotten about it.
We didn’t have very many children come last year so I didn’t get as much candy. I hope that is the case again this year.
I do hope it warms up a little. It will be chilly out there if it doesn’t.

Hungarian stage actor Bela Lugosi starred in the smash-hit theater production and was signed to make the movie. He quickly became the definitive screen vampire, and Dracula was his most famous role. SINGING
In Mary’s family, her aunt is thought of as a merry old soul because she sings as she goes about her daily routine.
One day Mary took the time to listen to the words of her songs, only to hear, "Now let me see, where did I put my keys?" and "I've got to remember to turn off the oven."
Mary asked why she sang about such trivial things.
"Mary," she answered, "if people hear me singing, they think I'm a happy old buzzard. If they hear me talking to myself, they'll think I'm daft and send me off to a rest home."

I will put some of them in my journal What’s New At My House. The link is at the end of this newsletter.
Receiving pictures of my grandchildren always makes a gloomy day a lot brighter. It won’t be long now and I can take some of all of them myself as we’ll be all getting together come Thanksgiving. It’ll be like a family reunion all over again. As the years go by it seems the chances we all have to be at the same place at the same time are getting few and fewer so I really take advantage of it when we do.
I’m still working on putting away the piles of things in my dining room. All of which came from my camper. I am determined that by the end of this week all will be straightened around. It is really terrible at the moment.

Romans 12:6a
There's an often-told story of a young boy who walked the local beach looking for starfish. Whenever he found one of the little sea creatures, he would carefully pry its legs from any rocks before tossing it back into the sea. Under his careful watch, hundreds of starfish were returned to the water.
One day an older man noticed the young boy carefully throwing starfish back into the sea. Intrigued, he couldn't help but ask the boy about his ritual.
"Why do you throw the starfish back into the sea?" the old man asked.
"Because the starfish will die if left in the hot sun on the shore," the boy explained.
"But there are millions of starfish, and multitudes of shores with countless beaches upon which you will never walk," the man contended. "On each of those beaches there are throngs of starfish you will never save. Why do you bother?"
The boy looked down at the sand and picked up a starfish resting nearby.
"Because today, this day, this one will live," the boy replied. And he threw the starfish back into the sea.
The man watched as the boy continued his practice. Then, he reached down himself, picked up a starfish, and threw it into the sea.
The story is a rich reminder that in a world of needs, one person can make a big difference. It's also a lesson in the importance of doing what you are uniquely created, gifted, and called to do. Like so many others, the boy noticed the starfish dying on the seashore, but unlike the others, he made a decision to do something about it. He used the abilities God had given him to make a difference. Like the old man in the story, not everyone will always understand or get what you do, but regardless of the response, you are called to use the talents and gifts God has given you for His glory

The Jack-o-lantern custom comes from Irish folklore. The story tells of a man named Jack who carried an ember in a hollowed out turnip to light his way. So, early Jack-o-lanterns were all made out of turnips. When the Irish came to America, they found that pumpkins were far more plentiful than turnips - and easier to carve. Before flashlights were invented, carved pumpkins with candles inside became part of the Halloween tradition.

What does the word "soul" mean? ... No one can give a definition of the soul. But we know what it feels like. The soul is the sense of something higher than ourselves, something that stirs in us thoughts, hopes, and aspirations which go out to the world of goodness, truth, and beauty. The soul is a burning desire to breathe in this world of light and never to lose it - to remain children of light.

HAPPY SUNDAY !!
It was good to sleep in a little this morning and now I’m slowly waking up with my good cup of coffee. Thankfully I’m feeling better today and will be able to make it to church this morning.
Yesterday turned out to be mostly sunny. Brisk winds were blowing, but no rain. I knew miracles could happen.
I had my guardian angel with me on the ride home too! Not 5 miles from home I must have started to doze off because all of the sudden someone was yelling “PAM” I looked up to see my car going toward the curb lane. What a blessing that was. Strange thing was that I could have sworn I was the one yelling.
I won’t question what happened. I didn’t think I felt drowsy at all, but then I must have been???
Today after church my jobs are to unload the car and do some laundry. I’m not going to push it any further than that. I’ll be lucky to get that much done.
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Witches and Halloween just go together, but who is the most famous witch of all time? Here's a hint... She said, "I’ll get you my pretty, and your little dog, too!".Yes, it's the Wicked Witch of the West from the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz. Nobody wants to dress up like Glenda the Good Witch. Halloween requires that black pointed hat and a good cackle

Ten Spiritual Tips for the weekend.!!
(2) Begin each day with a prayer. It will arm your soul.
(3) Control appetite. Over indulgence clogs mind and body.
(4) Accept your limitations. There are few who are great and they have enough worries.
(5) Don’t envy. It wastes times and energy.
(6) Have faith in people. Cynicism is caustic.
(7) Exercise. Go for a walk. Get out and about. It clears the mind.
(8) Read a book to stimulate imagination and broaden your views.
(9) Spend some time alone for the peace and solitude of silence.
(10) Try to want what you have instead of spending your strength trying to get what you want

TODAY’S REFLECTION
O LORD, our Lord,
how awesome is your name through all the earth!
You have set your majesty above the heavens!
When I see your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and stars that you set in place—
What are humans that you are mindful of them,
mere mortals that you care for them?
Yet you have made them little less than a god,
crowned them with glory and honor.
You have given them rule over the works of your hands,
put all things at their feet:
All sheep and oxen,
even the beasts of the field,
The birds of the air, the fish of the sea,
and whatever swims the paths of the seas.
O LORD, our Lord,
how awesome is your name through all the earth!
Ps 8:2, 4-10
Reflection
How will I praise God today? How will I show respect for
others, especially my neighbor or those in my community
who are not like me?
Love the Lord your God with your all and love your neighbor as yourself

HAPPY SATURDAY !!
It is supposed to be a mostly rainy day today and I’ve got to go down to the camper to finish up the winterizing. I’ll just dress warmly and put my raincoat and boots on and hope for the best. Hopefully it won’t take very long.
I’m planning to leave about 8:30 or so this morning and will leave the beagle at home. He’ll be much more comfortable. Lucky dog.
I’m still not feeling up to par. I guess my body is rebelling the lack of sunshine already. That is not a good thing as we have a long long way to go before we’ll see very much of that for sure.
I know I’ll enjoy being in my nice warm bed tonight and maybe even sleep in tomorrow.
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…TRICK OR TREAT DAY
(ours will actually be on this coming Thursday here)
Trick or-Treating started in 9th century European with a custom called "souling". On November 2, All Souls Day, people would walk from village to village begging for "soul cakes". These were square pieces of bread with currants. And for every soul cake the beggars got, they said a prayer for the dead relatives of the donors. Today, Trick or Treating is just for fun. And most children say their favorite Trick or Treat candy is either chocolate or gum

What You're Telling PeopleIf you drive this COLOR of vehicle . . .
RED:You're assertive (or aggressive) and strong.
YELLOW:It screams "Look at me!" - which is why you don't see it on family sedans. lt's for sporty SUVs and expensive sports cars, in which it also says, "I'm so rich I don't care what you think" (example $50,370 Corvette convertible).
ORANGE:You're on top of the trends. Orange (in many variations) is a key new color in 2003. GM has "sunset orange metallic" pickups; Mercedes-Benz offers a "paprika metallic" C-Class sports coupe.
SILVER:You ooze class. The No. 1 car color (it passed white for the first time in 2001), silver represents speed, power and success - which is why it's the favorite color of baby boomers (ages 38 to 56).
WHITE:A longtime favorite and the color of rental cars. People under 65 in a white car like to blend in. For the elderly, white harks back to the elegance and wealth of the 1920s.
BLACK:Power/aggression sums it up. The top choice for ages 24 to 37 and one of the top colors targeted by thieves (along with red).
BLUE (medium or dark):You're conservative, middle of the road. Blue always seems to be No.5 or 6 on lists of the top 10 car colors.
GREEN: (medium or dark):See blue, above, and add a touch of environmentalism.

1. To depict by drawing or painting.

TODAY’S REFLECTION
Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish.
John 6:9
Part of what we learn from the passage is that the boy gave everything he had. In giving all the food he had, the boy and the others got more than enough to eat.
Sometimes when I think I've given a situation to God, I realize that I've held on to a corner of it until I see how things will turn out. The truth is that God can't work freely in my life until I surrender - all my circumstances.
It's good to give a tenth of my income to God, but one hundred percent belongs to God. It's good to give a seventh of my time to God, but all of it is God's. Everything is. When I get clear on that, I find that there is more than enough to go around - enough time, enough food, enough love, enough everything.
God is enough.

HAPPY FRIDAY !!
Here it is finally FRIDAY. The last day of this work week. It will be a quiet one at work too. All of my weekly duties are done so I’ll be cleaning up the office a bit to keep busy. I hope the boss is out of the office for awhile so that I can do just that. I’ve decided that my stuffy head is sinus as no other problems have surfaced. That is a good thing.
Tomorrow morning I’ll be at the camper for a little while doing the final close up. DSIL has to do the antifreeze for me as I have no idea how to do that. He’ll also have to roll up my camper awning for me. The chairs and tables that I’ve been using on my deck are old ones that DD had and they’ll be going to the dumpster. I’m afraid they’ve seen their better days. Next year I’ll have to get something new to use.
Everything will be either packed away or brought home for the winter. I just hope those little critters don’t decide to winter inside my camper again. They do make a mess of things.
This weekend you will be getting my newsletter every day as I will be home. Something different for a change.
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…BLACK CAT DAY
Cats of all colors were domesticated as pets around 3000 B.C. in Egypt. They were well loved and protected by law from mistreatment. But let's jump to Europe during the Middle Ages. Many old women fed stray cats in the streets. When superstitious people called these old women "hags" or "witches", they thought the cats (especially black cats) were their witchy companions. That's the only reason black cats were ever considered unlucky. Silly superstition

TODAY’S REFLECTION
I set before you life or death, blessing or curse. Choose life, then,
so that you and your descendants may live in my love.
Deut 30: 19-20
Today is “United Nations Day”, being the day on which the UN was established
in 1945, after the world had seen what total war could do
At the inaugural session of the United Nations in 1945 at the end of the Second World War, Britain’s Prime Minister- Clement Attlee - stated that
“It is for the peoples of the world
to make their choice
between life and death.”
Let us pray about “choosing life”
in our own daily circumstances:
God our Father,
peace in our world
begins with the attitude and actions
of individual people.
We pray
that we may live in such a way
that we are positive in our attitude,
choosing “life”
in the small events of this day
- rather than choosing “death”
that comes from a negative attitude
of criticism and finding fault,
of doing others down
and being miserable.
In choosing
“life” rather than “death”,
living positively and cheerfully,
may we bring life to others.
Amen.
