ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Small Business Saturday which was founded by American Express in 2010. This day encourages consumers to shop local and support small businesses in their community. Since its inception this day has become and annual shopping tradition to many families during the holidays.
Small Business Saturday was initiated in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis as a way to positively impact local businesses and neighborhoods Small businesses face tough financial challenges and this day serves as a reminder to support local entrepreneurs today and every day.
On this day, many local shops will participate in community events and offer special promotions. To celebrate today, find places to shop this year to share your support!
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Family farms and small businesses are the backbone of our communities.
Tom Allen
There are few small businesses left in our town. Most have had to go out of business due to lack of customers. More and more even the big shops have moved out of our area to places that are more popular. What was once a thriving downtown area is not mostly empty with a few exceptions of bars and restaurant here and there. Corner stores used to be popular in neighborhoods but they’ve long since been closed up and now we have big chain stores like
General Dollar to replace them. They seem to be everywhere we go.
I shop at a local grocery store that is a chain of a smaller size and they seem to carry most of what I need and have a good choice of produce and canned goods to fill my shelves. Matter of fact I was able to find whole wheat pasta there while the bigger stores weren’t stocking it. I’ll continue to support them with my shopping as long as they stay there.
I won’t be cooking for the weekend today as it is our family gathering for Thanksgiving. I’m sure to be bringing home leftovers to have tomorrow too. DD and her hubby are supplying the Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy. Those of us attending will bring along some sides to share and a few desserts too.
I’ll have pictures to share tomorrow but today’s pictures are of my Christmas decoration that were the first to be set up this year Sunday is also the First Sunday of Advent so I had to put my Advent candles out on the table so my candle will be ready to light tomorrow. For years I gave every one an Advent calendar on Thanksgiving but I stopped doing that because I painted them a Calendar to count down the days on. They can now get this out every year to use over and over again. I’ve had the same Advent wreath to use for many years now and only need to replace the candles each year. I even made them all candle holders to use every year. The only ones that might not have one were those that were not married at the time I did them. I looked for but couldn’t find any pictures of them.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Estimates show that small businesses contribute 60 to 80 percent of the new new jobs annually.
Mike Simpson
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
8687. for small businesses to shop at
8688. for a family gathering to go to
8689. for Advent, a season to get ready for Christmas!
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

The countdown is now on...time to prepare for Christmas !
I, too, support local businesses and farmers markets whenever possible. Gosh, I lose hours at a time while scrolling through the different shops on Etsy!
Speaking of Etsy! I've not heard of a permanent Advent calendar before, but I'm going over there to look. You know, sometimes the best presents are those you give yourself. LOL. Have a great time today!
We were just talking this morning about Small Business Saturday and what businesses we could support today. Thought of a small business pet store so will go over there later this morning to get some dog treats for Winslow. Have fun at your Thanksgiving gathering!

It is really sad how many small businesses have closed around here this year. I shop small whenever possible. Have a great time at your family Thanksgiving gathering today!
