ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is World Gratitude day which is a day to be thankful for all you have. Gratitude, thankfulness gratefulness or appreciation is a feeling or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive. The experience of gratitude has historically been a focus of several world religions and has been considered extensively by moral philosophers such as Adam Smith.
Gratitude may also serve to reinforce future prosocial behavior in benfactors. For example one experiment found that customers of a jewelry store who were called and thanked showed a subsequent 70% increases of purchases in comparison customers who were thanked and told about sale were 30 percent increase and customers who were not called at all did not show an incease. In another survey, regular patrons of a restaurant gave bigger tips when servers wrote, Thank You on their checks.
Multiple studies have shown the correlation between gratitude and increased wellbeing not only for the individual but for all people involved. The positive psychology movement has embraced these studies and in an effort to increase overall wellbeing, has begun to make an effort to incorporate exercises to increase gratitude into the movement.
To celebrate today give thanks and be happy !

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Gratitude can transform common days into thangivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.
William Arthur Ward
We had a wonderful Sunday yesterday. The party was held out doors . It was chilly in the shade so we had to move out in the yard where there was full sun to sit. Then it was comfortable. All the cousins had a great time playing together and their was plenty of good food. My grandson liked the cake I’d made specially for him and we all ate some of that to celebrate the occasion.
With all the happiness and joy around us, it was easy to believe our world was back to normal. but of course we know it is not.
It’s another cool fall day today. The high is expected to be 70 degrees. The rest of the week will be somewhat warmer getting closer to the upper 70’s before we turn chilly again for next week. when it looks like we won’t be out of the 60’s.
On the menu today is:
Pasta with Zucchini and Tomatoes
2 tbsp olive oil
2 1/2 tbsp. butter
2 zucchini diced
2 pints grape tomatoes halved
1/2 tsp salt.
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Juice from 1 lemon
8 oz long bucatini or spaghetti pasta
1/4 c. grated parmesan cheese for serving
Put water on the stove to bring to a boil. While you wait for water to boil melt the butter and olive oil in a large pan on medium heat. Add the Zucchini and tomatoes and cook them, stirring occasionally. Once the pasta water is boiling, add the pasta and cook until al dente.
While the pasta boils continue cooking the vegetables. The tomatoes will start to break down and their juices will combine with the moisture released from the zucchini. Add the parsley and lemon juice. Add the drained pasta and toss to combine. Let the pasta cook with the vegetables for another two minutes or so it will absorb the light sauce as it cooks.
Serve the pasta with grated Parmesan cheese.
I don’t have grape tomatoes so I’ll chopped up some Roma tomatoes that I had on hand.I’ll also used whole wheat pasta as it is better for us.
I always try to be thankful for everything I have. You’ll see I list at least 3 things everyday in this newsletter that I’m thankful for. Most of the time there is a lot more than those things that I have to be thankful for. It’s good to appreciate what and who we have in our lives. Every day is such a gift.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Gratidue unlocks the fullness of life. It turn what we have into enough, and more. it turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn meal into a feast, a house into home, a stranger into a friend.

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for.

I am so glad you enjoyed you time with family and that your grandson liked his special cake. Enjoy your yummy pasta recipe this evening :)
What an amazing party! I agree - days like that make you feel like our world has returned to normal when we know it hasn't. My sister hugged me Saturday and said it was just so good to BE together. Deanie Sister) is so scared of Covid that she is isolating herself more and more. Her health is continuing to decline....mental and physical. I don't mention much about her on my blog but the Covid is robbing us of precious time with her.
The quote by Melody Beattie is one of my favorites! I read her books over and over.
Enjoy this last full week of September Morns. These September days are flying past!! I want to stop and hold onto them....to keep them a little longer.....
Ooooh yum on that cake! I'm delighted to hear yesterday's celebration was so enjoyable!
All interesting stuff about gratitude. Not sure how much I'll feel comfortable participating, but yesterday our Pastor was saying October 6 our town's churches are coordinating to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to our First Responders as a gesture of gratitude.
I needed this today, thank you SO MUCH!
Your son is tall Ma! The cake came out great! So glad you guys could make it work out in the sun to enjoy the time and celebrating together!
