ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a special occasion!!

Today is National Cheeseburger Day which is a day to fire up the grill or head to your favorite restaurant for a Cheeseburger.
There are several theories about the origins of the cheeseburger. One story claims tha the cheese burger was created between 1924 and 1926 by a cheer named Lionel Sternbeger. As the story goes, a homeless man dining at Sternbergers restaurant in Pasdena , California, suggested the addition of a slice of cheese on his hamburger order. Sternberger complied, eventually added it to hs menu and the rest is history.
Today, cheeseburgers are a staple at restaurants and backyard celebrations all across the country. Hungry yet? Enjoy a delicious cheese burger in honor of the the holiday!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Man who invented the hamburger was smart; man who invented the cheeseburger was a genius

Most of my family, including grandchildren love cheeseburgers and they often are a part of our family get togethers. Mr. Wonderful requested them for his birthday dinner. But on menu for today is Sloppy Joes. I suppose I could add a slice of cheese to those too.
Ground Turkey Sloppy Joes
1 lb. lean ground turkey
1 red onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 8oz. can tomato sauce
1 tsp. dried oregano
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 tso salt
8 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
In large skillet, cook turkey, onion and pepper over medium high heat until turkey is no longer pink and vegetables are tender, breaking up turkey into crumbles.
Stir in tomato sauce, barbecue sauce and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, summer, uncovered. 10 minutes to allow flavors to blend, stirring occasionally. Serve on buns.
This will make a meal for me with a side of coleslaw and a few low salt chips.
I first started using ground turkey instead of hamburger because it used to be cheaper and I had a large family to feed, but it’s no longer cheaper and often more expensive, but better for us.
This will also be my lunch for the next few days. The recipe makes enough to serve 8.
We do have a favorite burger place we like to go and everyone loves them. That is what the first picture is of today. Many happy times were shared there.
Speaking of family get togethers, we’ll be having one this Sunday. I’ll be making a cake today for this occasion and I hope to have pictures to show tomorrow. I’ll bake it today and decorate it tomorrow. The occasion will be a luncheon to celebrate our little Xfactor’s first communion. The cake I’m making is called a chalice cake. Shaped like a communion chalice. I made this for my own children and for many of my grandchildren too and want to keep up the tradition for as long as I can. We’ll see how it goes. The picture below is one I made for our Mr. Wonderful’s first communion a few years ago now. We had 3 first communions that year so it was the first of three.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!

Getting ready for an event is half the fun. Anticipation is a wonderful thing.
I just love seeing all your family photos, warms my heart! I'm sure your cake will be a hit and delicious besides. Enjoy time spent celebrating with family this weekend :)
That cake is beautiful ... made more so because of your tradition! I agree, anticipation is a great, tingle-y feeling. It's not just for little kids, anymore.
That is a nice looking cake Ma! Glad you guys are having a family celebration this weekend! I like cheeseburgers and we'll be having those on Sunday when the family comes over for dinner :)
