ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.
11 DAYS UNTIL FALL

Life is a special occasion!!

Today is September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance which was originally launched by the 9/11 nonprofit MyGoodDeed in 2002. This day supports the tradition of engaging in charitable service as an annual tribute to the victims, survivors, and those who offered their own service in the attacks on 9/11.
It’s also called Patriot Day, today is a time to reflect and honor the memory of all the 2,977 killed in the attacks on September 11, 2001. In the United States, the American flag will be flown at half staff at the White House and all U.S. government buildings and extablsishmets throughout the world.
A moment of silence is observed to correspond with the individual attacks, beginning at 8:46 a.m. EST- the time the first plane, American Airlines Flight 11, struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
Reflect, remember and renew your pledge to honor those lives forever changed on September 11th, 2001. To those fallen and those who survive. We will never forget.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I will never forget seeing what hate can destroy…I will never forget seeing what love can heal….
Steve Maraboli
Here at my house September 11th also has a much happier remembrance. It was on this day in 1965, that I was married the love of my life, DDH. He died young at 48, but we had 17 wonderful years together and and 7 beautiful children. And for that I’ll always be thankful.
My oldest son, who is also now deceased, and his wife also choose this for their own wedding date. So for them it was also a memorable occasion. I’m sure neither of us ever dreamed that this would be a historical date in the years to come. So it’s a very bittersweet day for us today and we remember and reflect.
So much grief and happiness intertwined, but that is life and we never know what will happen, so it’s best to always tell those you love how much they mean to you every day. I always try to do just that.
I’ll be lighting my candle for all those involved today and pray we never see another tragedy like that one again in our land..
On the menu for today is:
Broccoli Hamburger Casserole
I had to modify this recipe some because the original recipe called for Flank Steak but the store didn’t have any so I opted to use lean ground beef instead.I also cut the recipe in half making 4 servings instead of 8
1 lb. ground lean ground beef
1 16 oz. package frozen broccoli
8 oz pkg. fresh mushrooms
1 onion, chopped
1 pinch salt to taste
1 pinch ground black pepper to taste
1 can condensed cream ofmushrooom soup
1 8 oz container greek yogurt or sour cream
1 8 oz pkg shredded Montery Jack cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare broccoli according to package directions.
In a skillet over medium high heat, mix ground beef mucshrooms and onion. Cook until beef is evenly brown. Season with salt and pepper, and mix in soup and yogurt. Continue cooking until heated through. Transfer to baking dish and layer with broccoli. Top with cheese
Bake 1 hour until bubbly and lightly brown.
I went for my follow up two week check up with the doctor yesterday to check on my blood pressure and good news. He’s happy with the progress I’m making. I’m happy to say I also lost another 5 pounds, which was totally unexpected. I’ve lost a total of 9 pounds now since I changed my way of eating in July and it’s working it’s magic. I don’t have to go back now until October and will continue on the same meds. Now my goal is to get out and get more exercise. I think I can safely start mowing my own yard once again too. Which is a good way to get some exercise for sure.
The pictures today are from my wedding day so many years ago.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Praising what is lost makes the remembrance dear.
William Shakespeare
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
8453 for bittersweet memories, we’ll never forget
8454 for DDH and 17 wonderful years
8455 for my beautiful family
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
As the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

We remember and never forget...
Lots of prayers going out today and I will send a special one for you too. I loved seeing your beautiful wedding photos. Congrats on the weight loss and all going well at the doc! Enjoy your casserole and have a great weekend :)
What a beautiful bride you made, Ma! September 11 is indeed a bittersweet date for you; so glad your memories are happy ones. Congratulations on the great doctor's visit! That's super!
Beautiful wedding pictures remembering happier times vs the saddest for our country.
Tomorrow will be our 50th wedding anniversary and, like most others, it will be a quiet one especially with what's happening to the world this year.
Wish I could drop 5, let alone 9 pounds. What's your secret? Just cutting back? I can work 4 hours in the yard but, once inside, hand-to-mouth takes over!
Have a great weekend. Love reading your blog from Georgia.
So sweet with the wedding pictures! You were a beautiful bride! Still a special day for you even among the tragedy that happened 19 years ago! Great about the weight loss and your blood pressure doing better!
Betty
