ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR THURSDAY, MARCH 19TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.
92 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER

Life is a special occasion!!

Today is the first day of Spring, also called the Spring Equinox. Spring is one of the four temperate seasons, the transition period between winter and summer. Spring and springtime refer to the season and broadly to ideas of rebirth and renewal and regrowth.
At the Spring equinox or the first day of Spring, days are close to 12 hours long with daily length increasing as the season progresses. In Spring the axis of the earth tilts toward the Sun and the length of daylight rapidly increases. Our hemisphere begins to warm significantly causing new plant growth to spring forth. giving the season its name.
Unstable weather may more often occur during Spring, when warm air begins on occasions to invade the lower latitudes, while cold air is still pushing on occasions from the Polar regions. Flooding is most common in and near mountainous areas during this time of year because of snowmelt, accelerated by warm rains.
Hello Spring, we’ve been waiting for you !
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
In the Spring, I have counted 136 difference kinds of weather inside of 24 hours.
Mark Twain
Spring is my most favorite season of the year. With more daylight and flowers blooming, what’s not to love. The rain washes away all the dirt of winter and everything looks fresh and sparkling. I love it when the grass turns green and the birds return from their hiatus in warmer realms.
Every day in Spring seems to bring a new surprise. Leaves on the trees and bird song in the air. We need this time of year to cheer us up and to fill us with hope of a brighter tomorrow.
When I was in Florida for Christmas vacation I picked up some seeds or rather one of my granddaughters did, from some Palm trees there and I’m planting them here in pots on the sunporch. I’m hoping to see them grow so I’ll soon have Palm trees swaying away on the porch. I took some pictures and that is what you are seeing in today’s post. I'll update them when the trees begin to grow, hopefully before summer comes.
There is not much gardening that can be done here around my house. I’ll plant the flower boxes with inpatients when it gets warmer, Usually the middle of May. They are outside and we still have a chance of frost until around Memorial Day. They’ve been digging up my side yard close to the carport and the birds are loving finding fresh worms to eat over there. I can only hope they’ll landscape it when they are done and plant some grass. Not that I have much of that at all, but I don’t enjoy looking out at dirt piles.
They said they need to move the gas meters so that is why they ‘ve dug everything up. So far I haven’t had my gas shut off and hopefully they’ll choose to do that when it warms up a bit more. I still have the furnace running as we do get down in the low 40’s at night.
I’ve changed my menu and hope to have a rubin Sandwich today instead of the planned fried bacon and cabbage. I had a lot of the corned beef brisket left over and need to use some of it up. I enjoyed the stew yesterday but two days of that and I’m ready for a change. Tomorrow will be potato soup.
Rubin Sandwich
Serves 4
2 tbsp. butter
8 slice rye bread
8 slices corned beef
8 slices Swiss cheese
1 c. sauerkraut drained
1/2 c. Thousand Island dressing
Preheat a large skillet or griddle on medium heat. Lightly butter one side of bread slice.s Spred non buttered sides with Thousand island dressing. On 4 bread slices layer 1 slice Swiss cheese, 2 slices of corned beef, 1/4 c. sauerkraut and a 2nd slice of Swiss Cheese. Top with remaining bred slices, buttered sides out.
Grill sandwiches until both sides are golden brown, about 5 minutes.per side. Serve hot.
A simple way to make Thousand island dressing is to mix 1 c. mayonnaise, 1/2 c. ketchup and 1 c. sweet pickle relish.w/ a pinch of salt and pepper
I Hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!

The birds chirping outside my bedroom window at first light reminded me, Spring is here!
