Today is Lame Duck Day which honors an elected official who is approaching the end of his or her tenure, especially one whose successor has already been elected. It recognizes the ratification of the 20th Amendment.   The phrase lame duck was coined in the 18th century at the London Stock Exchange, to refer to a stockbroker who defaulted on his debts.

Lame Duck officials tend to have less political power, as the elected officials are less inclined to cooperate with them.  However, lame ducks are also in the peculiar position of not facing the consequences of their actions in a subsequent election, giving them greater freedom to issue unpopular decisions or appointments.

I’m not very political and really don’t have much to say about lame ducks but I do have a few pictures of ducks to share.  Today is more about going to school for me.  I was invited by our X factor's school to attend Grandfriends day.  So I’ll be out and about early today which is something rare for me.  I’m up early every morning but am not dressed and ready to be out till almost noon most days.  

They make it a fun morning with activities and a visit to the classroom for the students and grandparents.I went last year and had a lot of fun.  The news says there are some slippery spots on some roads and walkways this morning so I’m going to leave a bit early so I’m not late for school.  It’s been raining and temps are right around freezing which can make for some icy conditions.

Today’s pictures are from last year and include DSIL’s mom who also came to share the day with us.

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them
