ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 29TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Leap Day which has been a day of traditions, folklore and superstitions ever since Leap Years were first introduced by Julius Caesar ever 2000 years ago. It was Julius Ceaser and astronomer Sosignese who revamped the Roman Calendar giving it 12 months with almost evenly distributed days and adding a leap day every 4 years
According to legend, or possibly history, St. Brigid struck a deal with St. Patrick to allow women to propose to men and not just the other way round. - every 4 years. In some places , leap day has been known as Bachelors Day for the same reasason. A man was expected to pay a penalty, such as a gown or money if he refused a marriage proposal from a woman on Leap Day.
In European counties,, especially in the upper classes , traditions dictated that any man who refused a woman’s proposal on February 29th had to buy her 12 pairs of gloves. This intention is that women can wear the gloves to hide the embarrassment of not having an engagement ring. During the middle ages there were laws governing this tradition.
In Scotland it used to be considered unlucky for someone to born on leap day, just as Friday the 13th is considered unlucky. Greeks considerd it an unlucky day to marry during a leap year, especially on Leap Day.
Since the beginning of time man has been improving the way we keep it. That applies to calendars as well. Leap Day is every four years except years ending with 00 that are not divisible by 400. The earth rotates around the sun every 365 and about 1/4 days. So by adding an extra day every four years, we get mighty close to keeping the calendar consistent with the earths annual trip around the sun.
If you were born on Leap Day, congratulations you finally get to celebrate your birthday on your birth date. You are a very special person.
What ever you do to celebrate this day, be sure to make the most of this extra day. It only comes around every 4 years or so. Use it to do some good in the world.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
What would you do if you had one more day?
I’ve often wished for one more day in the week to get everything done, well today is that day. An extra day that only comes around every 4 years.
Today is also supposed to end this round of below freezing temps, Tomorrow we’re to be up in the 40’s again. What a relief. It’ll feel like heat wave to us . We’re going up on the weather roller coaster ride once again.
We don’t have any leap day proposals or birthdays here in our family so I’m sharing pictures of some of my bunnies today. I guess they can leap as well as hop.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friay!

I'm willing learn something new every day !
How interesting … the rituals and myths associated with February 29! 'Makes me awfully glad to be alive in the here and now.
Oh, by the way! I remember telling you my Polish hubby said he never heard of Paczkis. Well, we spoke with his sister a little bit ago. I tried pronouncing it, the way it's shown ("no"), then I spelled it. Her response? "Oh, you mean push-key!" And the light came on in her brother's head. I'd certainly struggle trying to order at a Polish restaurant!
I did like your bunny pictures, Ma! I do remember hearing the "custom" of a lady being able to ask a man for his hand in marriage. I hadn't heard about him having to give her 12 pairs of gloves if he said "no." Very interesting fact about this leap year! Glad to hear your temperatures are going to be warming up a bit for at least tomorrow!
