ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Groundhog Day and also Super Bowl Sunday. According to folklore, if a groundhog emerging from it’s burrows on this day, fails to see his shadow, it will leave the burrow signifying that winter will soon end. If on the other hand, the ground hog sees his shadow, he’ll retreat to his borrow and winter will continue for 6 more weeks.
Modern customs of the holiday involve celebrating early morning festivals which are held to watch the groundhog merging from its burrow, mainly in southeastern Pennsyvania. The largest celebration is held in Punxsutawney , Pennsylvania, where groups as high as 40,000 gather. The holiday began as a Pennsylvania German custom in the 18th and 19th centuries and has its origins in Ancient European weather lore wherein a badger is the prognosticator as opposed to a groundhog. The medieval holiday of Candlemas, held on February 2nd also involves weather prognostication.
If Candlemas be fair and bright ,
Come winter , have another flight
If Candlemas rings cold and rain.
Go Winter and come not again
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.
Helen Keller
We also have our own ground hog here in Ohio called Buckeye Chuck and it remains to be seen if he’ll see his shadow. His prediction is often different from that of Phil in Pennsylvania.. The forecast is for another typically gloomy Ohio day. So we’ll see what he says. I’ll be listening to the news to see but no matter what I’ve found there will still be 6 more weeks until Spring comes, as much as I might wish it otherwise.
I’m tired of these dark and gloom days but am so thankful that at least for two weeks I got to see some Florida sunshine which is more that I usually get. What a difference the sunshine makes in the way I feel and in my attitude. That is what the pictures are of today sunshine in Florida while on vacation this winter.
Believe me, it’s way too easy to get grumpy on these dark Ohio winter days.
As usual I’ll be watching the Super Bowl, more for the commercials and half time than I do for the sport. I’m not a big fan of football and really don’t have a choice of who I want to win. No doubt I’ll see the sunshine when I watch TV as the game is being held in Miami. Maybe that will cheer me up.
There has been a ground hog sighting right here in my own neighborhood too, so I’ll be on the lookout to see if I see him out running around here today. I haven’t seen him since winter arrived, no doubt it is burrowed in until Spring. They are natures weathermen.
I hope you have a RELAXING Sunday!

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
What sunshine is to flowers smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles , to be sure; but scattered along life's pathway , the good they do is inconceivable.
Joseph Addison
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

This just in, Phil did not see his shadow so it will be an early Spring ! Yay!
I was just going to say, for your sake, I hope there were no shadow sightings! Just yesterday I realized it's not the cold weather I like, so much as it's the opportunity to wear thick sweaters and boots, curl up under a warm afghan, or enjoying a hearty stew.
We, too, will have the SuperBowl on. No favorite, but hope and pray there are no serious injuries.
I absolutely LOVE your Florida photos!!! I'm on my laptop so I made them really big so I could meet each and every one of you! Y'all did good getting great group shots!
We will head home this afternoon and get there in time to watch the Super Bowl. We are rooting for the Chiefs. Their young amazing quarter back is such a good role model. I do admire young men such as he....gives me hope for the next generation.
I bet you look at your Florida pictures a lot, Ma, and remember the good times as well as the pleasant weather! I didn't hear if the ground hog saw his shadow or not, but I'm hoping for an early spring here :) We get so spoiled with the weather and when it is cold here (nothing like your cold) it is a bit miserable at times :) I enjoyed the Super Bowl game tonight and some of the commercials were cute; the half time show though, that I could have done without!
