ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Roots Day which is a day to take the time to learn about your ancestors and the history of your family name. The holiday season is full of family functions and gatherings, so it’s the perfect time to celebrate your roots.
It is our genealogy that makes us who we are . It’s a good day to create a family tree and remember those that came before us.
Enjoy National Roots Day!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
A wise woman once said to me that there are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these she said is roots, the other, wings.
William Hodding Carter
I know a little about my ancestors, but certainly would love to know more. On my dad’s side of the family, I’m probably 100 percent Hungarian, but on my mom’s side of the family, I have English, German, French, Native American, and possibly a few more in my background. My roots are varied and run deep. As settlers came to this new country back in the 1700’s, they met and married people from other countries. One thing I know is that they had to have been adventurous, brave and courageous.
They came here hoping for a better life. I am thankful to have come from a people like that who make up who I am. Thanks to them, I live in a country I’m proud to be a part of.
I was very surprised yesterday morning to see snow on the graound. They’d said we’d have a small chance, but I didn’t really expect it to happen at all. I don’t know if it will last until Christmas day though as some of our temps will go above freezing. We’ll see…
Like most Sundays, I’ll be off to church today to worship as I choose. Another reason to be thankful. Not everyone can do that. Most of my preparation is now done as far as getting ready for Christmas, so I think I’ll just relax and enjoy the day.
The picture below is courtesy of one of my cousins that collects bits of the history for the area where she lives. It’s was taken in the early 1920’s and is close to where my mom grew up. There is not much at all that remains and little did I know, it was a booming town at one time.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
We inherit from our ancestors gifts so often taken for granted.
Each of us contains within this inheritance of the soul. We are links
between the ages, containing past and present expectations.
sacred memories and future promise.
Edward Sellner
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
6637. for my ancestors, brave and courageous
6638. for being able to live in a country I’m proud of
6639. for a church to attend, I’ve been a member there for over 50 years
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER REQUEST
DDIL#5 has asked for prayers for her Dad as he meets with doctors and goes through tests to find out what is the matter. He’s not doing well and she would appreciate prayers for him. May the dear Lord comfort him as he awaits results which may bring surgery and may he be blessed with healing and good health.
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
The ancestors of all of us came across that same ocean in some ship. We must learn not only to live together, but learn to see one another as people rather than stereotypes.
Alex Haley
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

It's a day to remember where you come from.
It is always good to know where we came from and to instill those roots into our children. Our higher altitudes here might have a white Christmas but we'll more than likely get some rain and cooler temperatures. We're going to be off to the store after church to finish our grocery shopping for the week and for Christmas. It will be a madhouse but this was our first opportunity to go so I'll have to put on my patience shoes :)

Have you ever taken one of those DNA tests?
Just want to say, I love this:
"Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it’s just for one day.
Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day."
Merry Christmas! I said a prayer for the Dad of DDIL #5. :)
What an interesting image of that settlement! I'm fortunate that my parents were careful custodians of their parents, grands' and greats' lifelines. But still -- and this might sound odd --I catch myself wondering what my ancestors did with their time, where their minds wandered, what they worried about. In this age of instant knowledge and entertainment-on-demand I suspect lots of folks scarcely take time out to ponder.
To the best of my knowledge, my heritage is half German, half Norwegian. But(!), I've a blog friend whose 100% Hungarian. (Jon at Lone Wolf Concerto.)
I hope you're enjoying a relaxing Sunday!
I forgot to say, I'm praying for your DDIL's daddy … and her peace of mind. God is in the details!
Keeping your DDILs dad in my prayers. I had my DNA done a couple of years ago now and it was very enlightening! A few surprises to say the least! I love doing genealogy, and always have done. It’s a fascinating hobby! Xoxo
